Okay, okay, so it's not spring, but any time of the year is a good time for cleaning things out, right? I bet if you'd ask your mom she'd agree, and moms know everything, so there.

For September's challenge we're going to make our best attempt to be good, model citizens and do something we all know we should have done long ago... Read the unfinished books we already own.

Eyup, that's right. For this Sprint, you need to read all those books on your shelf (or Kindle, or library card) that you've never read, or still haven't finished. In other words, you need to read:

--Books you own (whether physical or digital) that you've never read.
--Books you own that you started reading but never finished.
--Books you CURRENTLY have checked out from the library but haven't read or finished reading.
--Books you checked out from the library (or friends or Kindle loans) in the past, started reading, and didn't finish before you had to return them.
--Unpublished books written by people other than yourself that have been sitting on your computer or in your email.

Only books that are currently in your possession as of today (Sept. 1st) count--anything you may purchase, borrow, or otherwise acquire after today does not count. This is about finally sitting down to read all those poor lonely books that have been patiently waiting for your undivided attention.

All books need to be read in the month of September to qualify. Cut off is at midnight, September 30th, local time. If you've started reading a book already, you simply need to finish reading it during September. There is no requirements on the length, type, or reading level of books.

Every time you finish a book, post it here to earn an entry.

What're the stakes? I haven't decided yet. Maybe you need to outread me. Maybe you need to outread each other. Maybe all entries will just go in a random drawing. You'll find out--but the more entries you guys toss into the pile, the more I'll up the stakes.

So grab a dusting cloth and let's get going!

Since last week's challenge got me to dig around in my Comixology account, I decided to download everything I bought but haven't read yet and finally get that all cleaned up. I just had a little time this morning, so I paged through the My Little Pony Art Gallery and My Little Pony Cover Gallery. The cover gallery had more interesting art FWIW...

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments Oooh... Methinks I have a stack or two that these last months have left me with... I've just been so busy, I often forget everything I'm reading - or the library demands all back before I'm done. Heehee

message 5: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments Just remembered though, I have a book deadline this month too, so this could be interesting... :p

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Rebekah, an author's life is ALWAYS a unique type of interesting. ;)

message 7: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments Ha! Very true. :D

message 8: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithblum) | 173 comments I love this idea! Now all I have to do is actually get some reading done. But, like Rebekah, I have writing deadlines for this month. :/

(Jen) The Artist Librarian (theartistlibrarian) | 72 comments I started school again, but I'm definitely in! I'm been working on reading through "Matched" by Allie Condie for awhile and I have a whole shelf of unread books, but nuts! This means I can't count the graphic novels I have on hold for my Special Topics class! =P

message 10: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I borrowed a lot of library books last month and have hardly read any of them, so I guess they count? I'm finally getting around to Raising Steam by Terry Pratchett today - I've been meaning to get on with it for ages but it's hardback and large so I couldn't take it on holiday.

message 11: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 51 comments I have a very large stack of books I own but haven't read. Maybe this will motivate me to read them . . . or maybe not. :)

message 12: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 51 comments So, current library books count, even if this is the first time you checked them out?

message 13: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments I have some books on my kindle right now and some in my Comixology but the rest of my unread books are across two states... Whoops.

message 14: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments Oooh. I have a ton of free books I've collected on my kindle. If I can find time to read this challenge should be very good for me.

message 15: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithblum) | 173 comments Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I probably have about 200 or more books on my Kindle (most I got for free) that I haven't read yet. *whistles innocently* And this doesn't count the real books I have on my bookshelves that I haven't read. :halo:

message 16: by J. (new)

J. Pennington (jgracetheauthor) | 74 comments Finished The Maze Runner which I got from the library last month. :)

message 17: by Joe (new)

Joe (yebard) | 34 comments I have a few laying around that I need to get too.

I'm going to start by finally finishing the last super villain of the day book. I keep thinking i'll just sit down some afternoon and read it but i never do.

message 18: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments Wow, this is easy for me...
So far, "The Cardinal Moth" by Frank White...finished the last half of the ebook.

message 19: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Last night I read Finding the Core of Your Story by Jordan Smith, which I've had on my Kindle forever. Good stuff!

message 20: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments Yesterday I finished listening to Father Gilbert Mysteries: The Silver Cord/In Memorium. I've had the CDs sitting on my desk for over six months. They were great stories!

message 21: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 51 comments I finished Storm by Evan Angler. It's a very interesting story.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

That's the spirit, my friends!

Yes, any books you currently had checked out on your library card qualify. You cam also re-check-out books you started earlier but didn't get to finish. You just can't check out new books you haven't read yet.

message 23: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithblum) | 173 comments Starting September 1st (and mostly just on that day), I finished the following books:

Nathan's Montana Bride by Maya Stirling
The Adventures of Starlight and Sunny by Ashley Armstrong
A Temporary Courtship by Calli Hunt
Cowboy Heart by Amelia Rose

message 24: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments I have far, far, far too many of these. * weeps *
* stalks bookshelves and tries to pick *

message 25: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments My #2: By the World Forgot, by Cyrus Townsend Brady. I started two weeks ago and finished last night.

message 26: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Read a play last night that I'd also had on my Kindle for a long time: The Man From Home by Booth Tarkington and Harry Leon Wilson.

Joe (yebard) | 34 comments #1
Well I finished Supervillains of London

It was great.

Now I need to charge up my kindle and read some book on there.

message 28: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I finally read The Time Machine which I've had from the library for a shockingly long time.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Ain't all the Supervillain books grand?

Katie, stop stalking and just read! You're overthinking this. ;)

message 30: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments Just finished In His Image just in time to do a Friday book review of it on my blog.

message 31: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments But wait. It's not Friday. O.O *headdesk* That was weird. My blog readers just got their book review a day early. Oops!

(Jen) The Artist Librarian (theartistlibrarian) | 72 comments I've read 8 so far ...
Anne of Green Gables Treasury - Nice little companion to the series
Dress a Day Sewing - Good for people who want to get into "altered clothing" & "upcycling" but have little or no sewing experience.
The Safe Lands: Rebels - my review: http://theartistlibrarian.blogspot.co...
Skirt a Day Sewing - I might buy this one. Very cute skirts
Sushi for One? - I haven't read Camy Tang in awhile

And ... I'm finally getting to the Christy Miller series I've had for years, but never got around to. The writing is tolerable but I'm really surprised by the little "nuggets" of wisdom I wasn't expecting since I'm over the target audience age. (Paraphrasing: It's good to have dreams Christy, but are you in control of your dream or is it in control of you?) ... so far I've read:
Summer Promise
A Whisper & a Wish
Yours Forever

@Aubrey - Do you want us to post a complete list by the deadline?

@Grace - How did you like Maze Runner? There's a movie coming soon, right?

message 35: by Joe (new)

Joe (yebard) | 34 comments #2 Once on a Time

I've had this on my kindle a while and just never finished it.
It was hilarious! Now I want to read some more A. A. Milne (non-Pooh) Stories.

message 36: by J. (new)

J. Pennington (jgracetheauthor) | 74 comments I liked Maze Runner overall. The plot and characters were good but the writing was atrocious. The language was slightly crude (via made-up slang) but it was otherwise clean I'd say. I'm looking forward to the movie. :)

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

A complete list would make my life easier, but I'll manually count if I have to. ;) Thanks for asking. :D

message 38: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments I was going to do this thing but it turns out that I've just been reading new books because I have discovered the library here and have had a ton of bus time to read on. Eheh. So I haven't read anything that counted AFAIK.

message 39: by (Jen) (new)

(Jen) The Artist Librarian (theartistlibrarian) | 72 comments @Grace -- Hmm... thanks! Hopefully his writing improves in the later books (I believe it's a series)? I might check it out, but I'm not crazy into dystopians and such. =)

@Aubrey - I can to a complete list --I've been keeping a running total draft so I can just copy/paste. ;)

message 40: by J. (new)

J. Pennington (jgracetheauthor) | 74 comments Finished reading A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Reptile Room, which I bought a few months ago. :)

message 41: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I have ... not really been reading. But, I did format my third poetry collection for pre-order, so that's a thing now. I guess that's some sort of productivity... It's here!: Broken Body Fragile Heart

But other than that, argh. I have so many books out from the library and I haven't read any of them and I'm going to uni in two weeks so I REALLY need to get a move on because I'll have to return them before then.

(Needless to say I won't be reading much once I get there, apart from work.)

message 42: by Morgan (last edited Sep 19, 2014 07:03AM) (new)

Morgan | 51 comments I've finished Reckoning by Jude Watson (Last of the Jedi) and The Deadly Curse of Toco-Rey by Frank Peretti. Would it be stretching the rules to count the Michael Vey book that came out Tuesday that I've been planning to get for two years? :)

message 43: by J. (new)

J. Pennington (jgracetheauthor) | 74 comments Read The Giver, which I took out from the library last month.

message 44: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithblum) | 173 comments I finished beta-reading "Guardian Star's True Mark" by Charissa Taylor Lees.

message 45: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 51 comments Grace, what did you think of The Giver? It's one of my favorites.

message 46: by (Jen) (new)

(Jen) The Artist Librarian (theartistlibrarian) | 72 comments @Morgan - I wasn't a huge fan of Jude Watson's other Star Wars series, but I did enjoy the Last of the Jedi series. Ferus Olin is one of the few Prequel expanded universe characters I love. :)

message 47: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 51 comments I do really like Last of the Jedi. I also liked the Jedi Quest books that I read, Darra Thel-Tanis being my favorite of those new characters. Ferus didn't become nice until he left the Jedi Order. I never cared that much for Jedi Apprentice. The Rebel Force books by Alex Wheeler were pretty good and brought back several characters from Last of the Jedi, though I hated what happened to Trever. :'( I liked him.

And here I though I'd gotten over my Star Wars phase. :)

message 48: by Kendra (new)

Kendra Ardnek | 38 comments Just read Toxic by Vicki Lucas, which has been on my kindle at about 10% for the past year. It was pretty good once I got past that 10%.

message 49: by J. (new)

J. Pennington (jgracetheauthor) | 74 comments Morgan, I liked The Giver a lot. :) I actually think I may have liked the movie better though!

message 50: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 51 comments I like the book better, but I did read it three times prior to seeing the movie. However, despite the changes, I still really really liked the movie.
