Can’t resist great book covers!
My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Now reading Pride, Prejudice and Poison by Elizabeth Blake
(First book in a new series)
I have now finished The Luck Runs Out, the second Peter Shandy book by Charlotte MacLeod. I quite enjoyed this but didn't think it was as good as the first book - I think part of the problem though was that it felt a bit laboured listening to it on Audible after a while, even though I enjoyed it in that format at first. But anyway I will give book three a try.

Really enjoyed this short series also, Elizabeth. Glad that there are many more in the Midsomer Murders tv series 😉

I've also started Photo Finish, and am not very far in but enjoying it so far. I see that Marsh returns to New Zealand in this one!

It's how I got interested in Barnaby, but no longer watch TV series.

In the beginning, the TV series was quite enjoyable but then became very formulaic. I have been very pleasantly surprised by the novels.

That's a terrific book, one of her best.

Love Miss Marple! Makes me want to break out my DVD collection of the Joan Hickson Miss Marple dramatizations - she is my favorite.

I'm on my library's wait list. I liked the first two.

Me, too! This one is creepy, so far - in a good, atmospheric way!
I'm currently under way with two mysteries - A Place Of Safety by Caroline Graham, one of our forthcoming buddy reads, and I'm listening to The Roman Hat Mystery, the first Ellery Queen book, on Audible.
I had only tried one Ellery Queen book before, The Siamese Twin Mystery which I remember not liking very much, but am enjoying the early set-up of The Roman Hat Mystery.

Roman Hat was the first book so it may provide more of a set-up.

Thanks Bicky - I'll bear that in mind if I find the same. So far, I'm enjoying it - as I'm listening to it on Audible it will probably take me a long time to get to the end.

I've just finished this one and liked it a lot - looking forward to our discussion.

Just a reminder that we have 3 buddy reads coming up in a few days, Photo Finish by Ngaio Marsh, A Place Of Safety by Caroline Graham and More Work for the Undertaker by Margery Allingham.
Thanks, Judy. I am halfway through the first two, but won't start the Allingham until I have finished those. Enjoying the Graham a lot.
Glad you are enjoying the Graham, Susan. I'm just about to start the Allingham - looking forward to it.
I just finished The Long Divorce, penultimate Gervase Fen. I loved it: humor, puzzle mystery, picturesque village characters, romance. A twist on the picturesque village as this one is populated by high-end commuters who want to keep the village picturesque vs. functional, and without day trippers.
I now have one of my common problems as a bunch of requests became available all at once.
Upcoming reads include:
More Work for the Undertaker for our buddy read. This is my only buddy read this month as I haven't followed the Midsommer series and the Marsh is only available as a physical book.
All due by the end of July:
Hickory Dickory Dock
Things in Jars
The Lantern Men The new Ruth Galloway just out today in the US!
Murder in G Major
I also have the physical book Evanly Choirs that the library will want back eventually.
An embarrassment of riches.

Sounds like quite a nice problem to have, Sandy! But I can see it would be a job to read them all at once.

Finished this. My brief thoughts on it here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Piyangie and Shaina, you are welcome to comment in the threads for the PD James books you are reading, as they are still open.

Ooh, I will be interested to hear more about this collection - I have read quite a few of the British Library anthologies and enjoy them but they tend to have several of the same authors, whereas this one is bound to have some different names to discover.
Talking of BLCC, one of the authors I've discovered via the anthologies is H.C. Bailey - I've just started reading a Kindle reissue of Call Mr. Fortune, one of his books of short stories about detective Reggie Fortune.
I'm slightly amused that Reggie is portrayed as lazy despite being a brilliant doctor! He also talks a bit like Lord Peter Wimsey.

Its definitely a different grouping from other anthologies. So far I've read stories by Anton Chekhov (Russia), Palle Rosenkrantz (Denmark), and Balduin Groller (Hungary). Additional stories are from Mexico, Japan, and India, to name a few. Of course they can never be as good as they would be in the original language, but still cool to read about the mystery genre from so many different cultures.
