That sounds like a great collection, Sandy. I've listened to part one of the radio version now and really enjoyed it.

ShanDizzy (sdizzy) | 153 comments I just discovered a book series by a two-author writing team - one is a Brit; the other an American. It's called the Mydworth Mysteries. I am starting the 1st one now A Shot in the Dark (Mydworth Mysteries #1) by Matthew Costello .

I found the radio drama for Cover Her Face online on archive.org so I'll give it a listen. I feel that Hugh Grant has such a distinctive voice I won't be able to picture him as an actual character.

I'm surprised as that is a site usually dedicated to items no longer in copyright. (I had to google Hugh Grant to see who he was.)

Lucy, I will be interested to compare notes on the radio version of Cover Her Face when we open up our discussion of this book. I've listened to the first episode so far and enjoyed it.

Do you just happen upon these Kindle Unlimited books that also include the audible version or can you do a specific search for them Judy? I've just taken up a three month deal for Kindle Unlimited and thought it would be fun to try reading along with an audiobook.

I just happened upon this one, Ruth - not sure if it is possible to do a specific search for them. Does anyone know?

I'm about halfway through Cover Her Face now and loving it - really looking forward to our discussion. (Also halfway through the radio drama version, which I like too, but the book is much better!)

I've also belatedly started Hercule Poirot's Christmas.

I did the same with Kindle Unlimited, and enjoy audiobooks as well, Ruth - if you figure it out, please share! Right now, with Bryant & May: The Lonely Hour: A Peculiar Crimes Unit Mystery, I have the physical hardcover from my library and just happened to find the audiobook on Scribd - a happy accident! The narrator is great, makes Arthur Bryant sound just like I’ve always imagined- he does a great job with all the different accents, no mean feat.

Bruce I’m listening to A Mind to Murder, by P.D. James, on audiobook. I read Cover Her Face a few months, so I’m making sure I don’t lag behind. Hahahaha 😸

Ruth, I've also just taken out a subscription to Kindle Unlimited. I listen to audiobooks a lot, more than I read in Kindle, so I've been rummaging around looking for the same thing. This page seems to be helpful. You have to watch out because some of the accompanying audiobooks are free but some you have to pay for. From what I've checked so far, this page seems to just show the free ones. Hope it helps but let me know if you find something better!

The other reason I like the text to go with an audio book is that sometimes I need to go over a section again and it's easier to find in a physical book or an ebook that on an audio version.

I do that too! It's so much easier to 'flick back' in a kindle version, to check up on a plot point or to catch up when my attention has wandered.

I'm quite optimistic about Kindle Unlimited being a better option than Audible, which I have had on and off for years. I've bought several books which I've never read (yet!) and more which i will probably only read once or twice.

It suits me much better to have a 'rental' system instead, and there seems to be lots of choice in Kindle Unlimited.

I'm having similar thoughts Sue. I'm on a 3 month break on Audible at the moment. I've been listening to a lot of podcasts and radio this past year and my audible credits had been mounting up. I found that I could take a break from paying the monthly fee for 3 months when obviously I don't get any credits either, so I'm using up the accumulated credits.

I'm going to see how my 3 months on Kindle Unlimited goes and then I might cancel Audible and do Kindle Unlimited instead. The choice does seem to have increased recently. I understand that I get to keep the audiobooks I've already bought if I cancel my Audible membership - or you can continue taking 3 month breaks as long as you pay at least one month's membership at the end of each break.

Oh and I agree about the rental system being more suitable in some cases. My kindle account is full of books that I got because they were free and I don't really want to keep but I don't know how to get rid of them!

Elizabeth (Alaska) Ruth wrote: "I got because they were free and I don't really want to keep but I don't know how to get rid of them!"

You mean they're on your Kindle and you don't want them there? Do you have an option "remove from device"? (My old Kindle does, is why I ask.)

Yes, I've read various instructions on how to remove a book from a device but when I try it the only option is to mark it as read/unread. It's a kindle app on my phone and tablet that I've got.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Ruth wrote: "It's a kindle app on my phone and tablet that I've got."

I just got an iPad last October, and that is the only place I have a Kindle app. What I did to remove a title, was to hold down on the check mark. A menu popped up and one of the options was to remove. The titles that show up without the check mark aren't actually on my device, but show as books I have in my Kindle library at Amazon.

I've found a solution just now - luckily the books I want to remove from the kindle app are ones that I don't want to keep anywhere so I've just realised that I can delete them directly from my account on the Amazon website. I also have some other books and documents that didn't come from Amazon and I found these were also shown in the 'Manage Your Content and Devices' section so I've been able to delete all the things I don't want to keep any more.

Thanks for the suggestions - I got there in the end!

I'm reading Thou Shell of Death, the second Nigel Strangeways. The group read it in sequence but I couldn't find a copy. I discovered it with my Christmas reads in A Christmas Most Foul: A Collection of Holiday Mysteries, along with a Michael Innes. Only the first two short stories are Allingham.

I'm enjoying the young and inexperienced Nigel. This is the book where he meets Georgiana. And looking forward to reading the conversational threads.

I also started Ashenden, for our January buddy read, but as it’s a collection of stories I will probably read it a story at a time over the month, in between other books.

Lots of Troy in that one (always a bonus as far as I am concerned).

Leslie | 600 comments I have finished Anna Katherine Green's 1917 The Mystery of the Hasty Arrow, the 13th and final book in her Ebenezer Gryce series. It is fascinating to realize that this American author had completed a whole series of mystery books before Agatha Christie had published her first novel!
