I found the description of The Den intriguing and preordered. As I remember the original description it was supposed to be a modern and a nineteenth century retelling of The Scarlet Letter. I ordered it at the same time as Women Talking because I thought they would both be good reads which involved women's issues. However, I did not find that to be the case with The Den.

So what is The Den about? It is a story about two sets of sisters who live 100 years apart, and told from all four perspectives. While it does deal with sexuality, I wouldn't call it a retelling of The Scarlet Letter. I did find it interesting and readable.

Now some critics haven't been kind to this book and one review I read called it unsatisfying and odd. While I did have some issues, I'm not going to pan it. I enjoyed reading it and will leave others to make their decision.
