Kulsoom | 17 comments Spoilers. I remember three of the stories. One is about how she was born. And she was so frail that her parents (the king and queen) kept trying to keep her warm. In her teen/young adult years she is discovered to run nekkid in the snow at night and she thrives and is healthy in the absolute cold.
The second story I remember is of so many suitors bringing her gifts. And the gift she likes best will make that suitor her chosen spouse. She picks the gift of a suitor who is from the hot, hot desert.
And the last story is of her life in the desert. Her husband made a special home for her to keep her cold so she could survive. But then she goes into the hot, hot furnace/caverns where he makes his crafts and she has a miscarriage because her body couldnt handle the hot place.

From the Kirkus: The best piece is "Cold ," a deliciously imagined fairytale whose heroine, the beautiful princess Fiammarosa, unexpectedly departs the invigorating northern clime where she thrives to marry a prince (and expert glassblower) from a barren desert country. Her life is soon indeed imperilled, but the prince's creation of an "artificial world" magically preserves her—and their union.
