ABANDONED. YA horror/supernatural book where a boy tries to jump a ravine, dies and is made to do a series of tasks by some mean dead children

So he gets to the other side of the ravine and notices all these new people that weren't there before and one of them lets him know he died and is in the bottom of the ravine, but I think there's some kind of deal where he can go back into his body and live if he does these things for the dead kids? He MIGHT have freaked people out by turning inside out and curdling some milk but that could be from another book I read around the same time! Had like a point horror/goosebumps feel to it but I don't think it's from any of those
I read it between 2005-8, can't picture what was on the cover or the author etc
