SOLVED. Science Fiction Humorous 1970's Character Rufus. [s]

When I was a dependent in Germany - the library on base had a book that I really liked. It was a Science Fiction Novel I read in the year 1977. It's had been on the shelf for years already.
There was a computer named Rufus - that had hilarious comebacks of dialogue. I can't recall if Rufus was a spaceship or a stand alone computer. Other than remembering the character of Rufus I do not remember much of the book except I know I liked it and 'd like to read it again.

Any help is appreciated.
