Lia | 96 comments Living in the Md., DC, Va. area is great and gives me a host of battlefields to choose from but what really raises my ire is their destruction like the Ox Hill battlefield which had been reduced to a few statues in over-developed Fairfax, VA. Any others you guys know about?

Civil War Trust is a great organization. Their website (which Manray9 shared) has a lot of great info about preservation threats and general info on the Civil War. I'd highly recommend working with or supporting CWT if you are concerned about destruction of historic battlefields.

Mike | 158 comments Along these lines, I have Battlefield Farming a Civil War Battleground by Peter Svenson Battlefield: Farming a Civil War Battleground which should be an interesting account of dealing with the issue in the present.

Manray9 | 509 comments I have visited almost every battlefield in the eastern U.S. It is a shame what's been done (or not done) at Chantilly.

Lia | 96 comments Thanks y'all! It's a great time to start visiting but a lot of private visitor centers close up in October so I'll get on it!

I was a stone's throw from the site of Leesylvania -- the childhood home of "Light-Horse" Harry Lee.
