I believe the book opens with a woman walking after some retail therapy. She is thinking about the dress she tried on and bought. She sees a small child playing with a ball. The ball rolls out of the yard and a van starts down the road. I believe she is worried about the child getting hit by the van, but the side door opens and someone jumps out to snatch the boy. She runs to help and is taken as well. She drops shopping bag and wallet. The shifters who come to search use her smell on the dress. Child maybe alphas son, but I know a grandmother was supposed to be watching him. Taken to some type of underground lab.
