Nemo (nemoslibrary) | 1505 comments Some Platonists believe that demons are mediators between gods and men, as they occupy the intermediate position between god and men, both in their nature and in their physical abode, therefore they deserve to be honoured with sacrificial rites.

In Book IX, Augustine examines this doctrine and contrasts it with the Christian doctrine of "mediator".

Nemo (nemoslibrary) | 1505 comments In chapter 15, Augustine expounds the doctrine of the Dual Nature of Christ, who is the only Mediator necessary and sufficient to reconcile God and Man.

John Angerer | 67 comments The duel nature controversy wasn't solved until 451 at Chalcedon, so was Augustine clarifying or was he inventing?

Clarifying.

By "Dual Nature of Christ", I mean Christ is fully human and fully God. If I'm not mistaken, this was not controversial in the time of Augustine, what was controversial was how this dual nature actually worked -- at least that's my layman's loose explanation of the issue.

Come to think of it, I wish Augustine had addressed this latter issue specifically. For he has the ability to explain complex theological concepts in ways that lay people can understand.
