Crissie | 2 comments Plot begins when a man and his pregnant wife along with several children board a ship bound for their free govt. land grant in the south. Wife gives birth to boy en route whom sailors name "Atlantic" but dies shortly after she arrives very late because ship got 'becalmed' (stuck?). Hubby gets other free land grant, marries and has daughter named Anne who also grew up and gave birth to her own daughter who married a man from Vicksburg, MS by the first name of Martin. Many years later, mother Anne decides to become a slave breeder and buys two young Black women for her evil purposes. One gives birth to 4 children in 8 years before her daughter (Martin's wife) issues an ultimatum: Stop or go away forever. Anne opts for the latter after one 'breeding wench' breaks 5th child's legs to prevent sale and permanent separation. The slave mother is sold as punishment but Anne moves to New Orleans with 4-year-old child planner to sell her when she gets a few years older or maybe turn the same baby into a breeder. Story continues with Anne's death and onset of Civil War...
