Isaac We don't know what exactly goes through Brangwain Spurge's mind. The only two perspectives in the book are Werfel and the Spymaster. So we don't know what Spurge would do if someone told him that the gem was a bomb. We only know what Werfel thinks Spurge is trying to say, which might be the complete opposite of what Spurge is actually trying to say. He doesn't seem like he's been very open-minded but he doesn't seem like a completely closed-minded person either. For example, he didn't appreciate their efforts to make him feel at home but at the same time, he tried understanding the goblin custom of insults to show friendship. If he knew about the bomb, he might not open the container because he would want to save his own life. He might also think that the goblins weren't all that bad of a race after all, or he might even think the elves were bad ones in this situation. We really can't know without his perspective.
