The Truth About Forever
question
Did anyone else dislike the ending?

Okay so I overall really liked this book - I thought the whole catering business thing was really creative and fun to read about, and I liked all of the characters in the friend group. However, I felt like the romance just wasn't that good. I do really appreciate the fact that the book didn't have instalove, but instead focused on having Macy and Wes slowly develop a strong friendship (ADORED reading about their truth game), but I feel like we never really got to see them falling in love. I kept waiting for some really romantic moment(s) to happen and they just never came. There was never any sort of love proclamation or anything like that - all we got was that one kiss at the end that I don't even really think counts considering that the chapter just ended right then and there.
Just feel like I was promised a super sweet and fluffy romantic contemporary that ended up not being all that romantic. I also felt like Macy's way of acting was really frustrating sometimes and neither she nor Wes had particularly interesting characteristics/personalities. Soo I'm not sure if I wanna read any more Sarah Dessen books (this was my first), unless perhaps anyone here knows of some with a little more romance in them?

I'm torn about how to respond to this because, I've read a good number of Sarah Dessen novels. I think the problem is that a good number of them follow the same pattern of friendship, summer, parent/sibling/tragedy problems, an epiphany, romance, and going to high school or college at the end of the book. Or confirming they're officially a couple by kissing at the end of the book too. There is one that's got a unrequited love for a protagonist, and a fall in love across the room kind of love interest, but still follows the standard pattern of most of Dessen's current novels. Not that any of Dessen's novels are bad, but their romances are almost secondary to the problems the protagonist faces in each novel thus far.
Honestly, I feel like you might be better off trying a different author, who will give you what your looking for.

Yeah same. I read Just Listen by Dessen first and I really liked it then I searched on Google Dessen's best books. And one website had this on no. 1 so I started it, expecting a really good romantic story.
And I did have fun reading it, but I kept waiting for something to happen. Honestly I love how Macy and Wes's friendship is shown, the process, how they get to know each other really well. But I kept waiting for some love confession or something. Just the ending didn't satisfy me, like it wasn't enough.
So I don't know if I'm gonna read anymore Dessen books..
