Hello Everyone!

I hope you are excited to start this Lunar Chronicles read with me :) I will be the Discussion Leader for the first book in The Lunar Chronicles series. CINDER!!

This isn't a spoiler free area. So readers can discuss everything and anything about Cinder. But not the other books in the series. Of course! Haha. I'd love to discuss it with you and share our reactions as we read through it for the next two weeks!!

But please do list ***SPOILERS*** above your replies in order to avoid spoiling other members.

*opens book* Chapter One......

Happy Wednesday everyone! Um, so I am a chapter into the book so far. And a few things have crossed my mind.
1. I feel so bad for Cinder. She isn't fully human and so everyone finds her uncomfortable and disgusting in some way. It's pretty sad.
2. I was surprised to find out that the author used Beijing which is the capital of China. Instead of Paris, France since Cinderella is from France. But I guess she didn't really want to have her characters too attached to the Cinderella story we know today. Did anyone else find that a bit odd?
3. I love the fact that Cinder is able to tell if someone is lying or not. When she noticed that lie from the prince. I was like damn. What is the prince hiding? I'm so curious.
4. The minute the prince arrived the first thought that came to my mind is the Animated series Chobits. Has anyone heard of it? It's very good! I recommend it.

Happy Reading!!!

Please share your thoughts on the book. Even if you read it a long time ago. Or are planning on reading it but can't participate in the readalong. What are your thoughts? I'd love to hear all about it.

Luisa (lvalente11) I happen to like the idea that it takes in Beijing. I think it makes more edgy. In the original Cinderella she needed to someone save her. She needed a Fairy Godmother to help her out of the situation she was in. By having it in Beijing and having Cinder be half cyborg, it makes her much stronger character. Someone girls can relate to instead of a girl that needs a man to save her.

I see what you are trying to say. Yeah the Beijing thing does give it a more futuristic edge to the character and her surroundings. Kinda reminds me of a few old rustic futuristic Doctor Who episodes. Making Cinder half cyborg makes it super interesting. I just can't put it down. I can't believe I had this book sitting on my shelf for 7 years. I am ashamed of myself haha. Is Cinder gonna be a kung fu bad ass? I can't wait to find out.

Luisa (lvalente11) The story gets pretty intense. You won't believe the stuff that happens. It's going to be so good.

OMG!! Cinder is Princess Selene. I can't believe this. Honeslty this book is Cinderella meets Princess Anastasia meets I-Robot or something. It's crazy!! I am super happy to be reading this series right now. It's crazy good. Still ashamed of myself for leaving it on my bookshelf for like seven years.

***SPOILERS***

OMG!! The queen has seen Cinder. Cinder is acting all weird. She now knows about Princess Selene but doesn't know the fact that she is Princess Selene. This book is so good and has my head filled with a lot of questions. Like.. can they heal the citizens by injecting them with Lunar blood? Will they all just become Lunar? I am so confused. When will the prince find out about Cinder being a cyborg? I want a Lunar Chronicles TV show or something!!! How do the other books connect with this one? Are they going to kill that Lunar bitch of a queen and how will they do it? This is just crazy! Someone talk to me lol!!

Luisa (lvalente11) All I can tell you is that Cinder will appear in the second book.

Argh I can't believe how good Cinder was. I really liked the book and gave it a five star! I loved the whole cyborg aspect of it. And was pretty surprised by the ending. I wonder how the prince is going to look for her. Because in the original Cinderella story she loses her slipper. While in this book.. she left behind her cyborg foot. Kinda funny.

I am really glad that I finally picked up the first book. And am a bit disappointed with myself for waiting like seven years to pick up this series. I have already jumped into Scarlet and can't wait to start discussing it.

Johanna (5886046-johanna) ***SPOILERS***

I've read Cinder in February. I remember that this was nice to read: text was good and the story interesting. There were some things that you could guess (= Cinder is Selene) but I it was okay. This was overall nice read, nothing that shaked my world but okay. I added all other parts to my TBR after I've read this first one :)

Do you think there were obviously good/bad characters and what do you think about that?

Honestly it's been a long time since I read a book or series with cyborgs involved. And I really love the series so far. It gets crazy. In the second book you kinda start to second guess a few things you thought were "true" in the first book. You also meet these great new characters.
I really enjoyed Cinder. I liked how it took place in the future and I love how Cinder has this secret past that no one has information on. So I really hope to unlock some more of her past throughout the series.
I don't have a good or bad character. I liked them all. I feel like they were well written for the reader to understand and know them without the author going into crazy detail as well.

Alysha (alymariiee) | 4 comments My biggest regret is not reading this book sooner. I adored Cinder. I am greatly enjoying the world Meyer has come up with and am excited to see how everything comes together. The ending was intense and I am shocked that Meyer has already revealed to the Lunar queen that Princess Selene is alive (knowing that there are still 3 more books in the series!)

I am curious to see how to ID chips extracted from those inflicted with lemutosis might come into play in the future? I am also looking forward to seeing how Cinder makes her escape and if she will meet with the other Lunars in Africa? I am also hoping Kai will come around soon. And that Iko gets a new android body!

Oooppps, I'm sorry, you can definitely notice that English isn't my native language xD I meant good/evil not good/bad, I meant personalities. I meant that how obvious it was that person was good or evil. With this I meant that it's also possible to have quite "grey characters": characters that you can't see clearly if they're good or evil.

PS. I was today in the library and loaned the rest of the serie xD xD

Omg that's great!! You can catch up and join us in the Scarlet chat as well.
The second isn't as crazy as the first, but you start to get a lot of answers from any questions you had from the first book. It's getting crazy and mysterious.
I really enjoy the series so far and I am so glad to have picked it up already.
