It's more creepy than spooky. Also, the photos in the book are actual photos that he and other collectors buy and... well, collect. It's even stranger when you know that. I thought they were created specifically for the book when I read it. Then I had to flip back through the photos. It's fun
I was actually surprised that this one won but now that you mention the theme maybe that did influence people's choices???
(Not that I'm against the book, it just hasn't really registered with any of the regular posters on the boards)

Another group I belong to read it a couple of months ago and the discussion seemed to go well. I didn't have the time to read it then, so I am looking forward to getting another try. I'm all for second chances in life and I book groups ;-)
Sorry but I am pretty disappointed that this won - I thought there were a lot of great books that were nominated.
I started reading this and really didn't like it at all so I am very disappointed that this was the one chosen when there so many good choices.
Well, it wasn't my top pick, but it wasn't my bottom pick either. I'm hoping it turns out to be good. My GR friends have rated it anywhere from 1-5 stars, but there are many more high ratings. I'm looking forward to seeing what it's all about.
I read it last year and this year I have already read the second installment. If one doesn't expect fireworks, it is a good read with some twists and turns of the plot and suspens throught the book. I would say the second part is equally good, and in both, original photographs add to the atmosphere, which is rather creepy, but in a positive way, in my opinion.
This is one book I have heard you really need to get the actual book because of all the photographs. I have heard complaints about the ebook?
The cover is really creeping me out...not sure I will be able to read it with only one lamp on...I think I will have to keep all the lights on in the house.

You would probably be alright if you read it on a tablet like the Kindle Fire but I definitely wouldn't recommend reading this on an ereader.
