I am trying to remember the name of a book I read around 2012. It was about a guy who's twin had died even after he tried to save him, losing a finger in the process. He finds a way into the afterlife sort of and is able to see his twin and have his finger back. He feels strong in this other world, but the butterflies that land on him in the real world are actually draining him. There is a girl trapped in this other world with is brother, and you find out she is evil and the reason the brother cannot leave and move on. It's like limbo or purgatory almost.
