Melanie (meldoc) | 634 comments Hi everyone..since so many of you have finished Silkworm and I haven’t even started book one in that series (I am crazy picky about reading in order) I will join you all with Tryptich. I had a bit of trouble finding the thread for the buddy read, if we are allowed and somebody that is better at links than me could share the link here I thought it might be helpful for those of us who want to join in. Thanks in advance.

Melanie (meldoc) | 634 comments So here is what May looked like for me:

Circe by Madeline Miller Circe Interesting and well written, but took a minute for me to get into.
The Stolen Marriage by Diane Chamberlain The Stolen Marriage a page turner that sucked me right in and had me really invested in the lives of its characters. Based on true events this book had me looking up facts about the Polio outbreak.
Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline Orphan Train Another interesting fact based story about a history I knew nothing about.
The Devil's Punchbowl (Penn Cage #3) by Greg Iles The Devil's Punchbowl. And...crime thriller time. I love Greg Iles his writing is so descriptive I’m waiting for Hollywood to make this a film or TV series

🌟May PIFM Winner🌟
Natchez Burning (Penn Cage, #4) by Greg Iles Natchez Burning. Although I love this author sometimes he really does need an editor to be a bit tougher on him. This one seemed to drag a bit.

And my June PIFM Winner is...

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

message 65: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis @Melanie I also enjoy Iles stories. I haven't read many of them though. Good month for you!

I agree Circe was very good. I am trying hard to break out of my historical and mystery bubble. The funny thing is I chose Stolen Marriage and Orphan Train as my out of the box books and then they were both historical fiction. I'm careful not to read too much about a novel because I find the dust covers can really ruin it for you.
I understand what you mean regarding Orphan Train, although I enjoyed it and read through it quickly I felt like it was missing quite a bit...I wanted more ...about every character. I liked what she gave me, but I wanted more. Steal away..it let's me know my ideas aren't crazy.

What a fantastic list!! Every time someone does a list like this I find myself stealing titles to read.
Well...my Canadian Heart cannot go without saying that Anne of Green Gables is the Winner. We ALL read it, in fact required reading when I was young. I'm not fond of the remakes I see on television of the book but loved the 1985 TV depiction with Megan Follows as Anne.
I am itching to read My sister the Serial Killer and The Onion Field so it's great fun to see your ratings.

message 75: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Vicki, there's a 50 state challenge thread in Group Challenges and I just expanded it to see where I read. So far too much California!

Tonya and Kirsten: LOVED Invisible Furies. Wish I'd waited for a group read with you all

Patricia: Being retired has its benefits ;)

Melanie: Orphan Train seems like it would have been a good JF book with some modifications. I can't believe I missed Anne growing up. Do you think it's worth it to continue the series? I kind of like leaving her when she's so young and irrepressible.

D.R. Ransdell | 1 comments I recently followed the Dan Brown thriller course on Master Class and was very impressed with what a good teacher he was. But I haven't read his books beside the DaVinci Code. Now I'm reading Digital Fortress. Some of it's a little wordy, and there's some extended background info I skimmed, but I was wondering what other readers' experiences had been with Dan Brown.

I know some people make fun of his writing, but the sales speak for themselves. I really liked his first three books, but stopped for some reason

Mandy (penn_y_lane) | 547 comments Omg I am sooo behind, I haven't started my May book yet, let alone my June one. I had to read Kane and Abel (Kane and Abel, #1) by Jeffrey Archer for my book club and it took ages as I have been so busy lately.

Anyway I hope to fly through The Silent Girl (Rizzoli & Isles, #9) by Tess Gerritsen (May) and Go Set a Watchman (To Kill a Mockingbird, #2) by Harper Lee (June) along with my next book club book Circe by Madeline Miller in the next 4 weeks. Wish me luck lol

Hope everyone is enjoying their books.

message 94: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Oh! I read Kane and Abel long, long ago. It was one of my first "adult" books. It was when I got books from my mom.

Went to the Badlands when I was 10 when we took a road trip from Washington State to Washington DC and then to Disneyworld and then back through the Southwest. Our VW Dasher was never the same again.

I hadn't read any Archer books before and probably wouldn't have picked it up if it hadn't been for my book club. That is the point of book club though :)

That was some road trip alright! I bet it made a big impression on you as well as the VW haha. I was more impressed than I thought I would be in DC. So much to see and free to the public. At least it used to be. The food $ were outrageous, though
