Book Blondie | 15 comments Looking for a new series like a Court of Thorns and Roses. Love Sarah J Mass especially this series. I love that she ends up falling for the “bad guy” who is actually misunderstood and the “hero” is not what he lives up to be. Fan of love triangles and slow burning passion. Any suggestions are welcome! Other series I really enjoyed: Fever Series, Tairen Soul, Kate Daniels, Night Huntress, Guild Hunter, Vampire Academy, Bloodlines, Shifter Series

Zara (zara124) | 11 comments What about the "Shatter Me" series? It's got some of what you're looking for.

Magnus Iskander Reim (magnusiskanderreim) | 32 comments Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. Faes and romance, great atmosphere and writing.

Magnus Iskander Reim (magnusiskanderreim) | 32 comments + if you like fun romances with magic and worldbuilding, you can try A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness, Burn for me by Ilona Andrews and The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski.

Book Blondie | 15 comments Thanks for the Rex’s! I have read most of them. For some reason, I could not get into Shatter Me. It had amazing reviews so I really wanted to like it but for some reason, i couldn’t understand what was going on. I will try again. I will also check out Never Night. Thanks ladies!

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 229 comments For feel I'd go with Bright Smoke, Cold Fire (Bright Smoke, Cold Fire, #1) by Rosamund Hodge it's intense and it has just as much grit.

I was interested in the rec. too. But I see Shatter Me series, books 1 through 3 are $7.99 , $9.99, then $11.99. I just can't get hooked on a series that expensive. Any ones recommended in Kindle Unltd?

Jayla Kane (jaylakane) | 101 comments If YA with grit is kind of interesting to you, I'd try Leigh Bardugo's duology, Six of Crows. It isn't romantic in a traditional sense, but the hero reminded me of Rhys in some ways (who is one of my permanent book boy-friends). Don't punch me if you hate the ending--she's supposed to expand on it eventually. She said she was, anyway, and if she doesn't you can punch me then. :)

Traditional question about Six of Crows : I've read Shadow and Bone but found it so underwhelming I completely gave up on the Grisha trilogy. Is it really essential to have read it before Six of Crows ?

No, not at all--and I felt the same way, honestly, although I was fascinated by the mythology I really had a hard time investing in the characters and relationships. Six of Crows has a really different feel to it; characters from the previous series appear, but they are completely unessential and more of a cameo. It still may not be to your taste--fantasy YA is really hit or miss for me--but Six of Crows is one of my top five fantasy YA series of all time. But the ending is rough (this isn't really a spoiler, because the whole thing is rough--action packed, dark hero, lots of grit, and atypical narrative construction).

Amoreena | 66 comments Have you read Holly Black’s latest trilogy? The Cruel Prince is the first one I think.

message 16: by Jayla (new)

Jayla Kane (jaylakane) | 101 comments Oooh, good suggestion! Anything by Holly Black might fit the bill, she's a very interesting writer. Lots of fae stories, some of them very dark and contemporary, but I like that contrast with SJM myself.
