Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments Hi everyone!

It's time to nominate for July! The theme is Independence

Please remember to state a connection to the theme when you nominate. Thank you :)

Here are some short rules for nominating books:

~ Each person can nominate 1 book.

~ Book must be available both as a physical copy and as an ebook.

~ Authors: Please do not nominate your own book.

~ Please include the name of the book and the author or link to the book.

~ Please do not nominate books that are part of a series, unless it is the first book.

~ You can second someone else's nomination, but that will count as your nomination.

~ When nominating, please state a connection to the theme.

~ You cannot nominate a book which has previously been a group read. Past buddy reads are fine. (See Group Reads in the bookshelf)

This thread will be closed by May 26th, and we will choose ten books for the poll. If there are more than ten books nominated, we will choose the ten most nominated. If there is still a tie to get into the top ten, we'll go back to the Goodreads average rating to see which is highest.

Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail
by Cheryl Strayed

message 3: by Leane (new)

Leane I would like to nominate Trucker Joe by Jorgi. The theme of independence runs deep in this story...something every main character is after. However they learn the true meaning of independence.Trucker Joe Trucker Joe by Jorgi

Terrie | 134 comments I'm going to nominate Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens .

The small girl lives independently in the marshes of North Carolina. It's quite a lovely-written page-turner.

I would look forward to the discussion.

Linsea | doctorbookworm | 4 comments Nominating Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

The protagonist leads a group of Punjabi women in a creative writing course that quickly turns smutty and hilarious, and each of them in turn learn the importance of embracing their independence and individuality

Marc *Dark Reader with a Thousand Young! Iä!* (marcthedarc) | 660 comments I nominate Nation by Terry Pratchett. It is a standalone book, not part of his Discworld series. It chronicles the last survivor of an island nation and his efforts to preserve his people's ways against incursion.

Nation by Terry Pratchett

Ashleigh Motbey (ashybear02) | 1686 comments I'd like to nominate Animal Farm by George Orwell, because I feel it reflects both the pros and cons of independence and how, when not done correctly, can turn very sour.
