3. Ciszek provides a rule to know when a "call" is genuine and comes from God, rather than being based on self's desires. He says that, once you've taken the right decision, you are flooded by a sense of peace and a feeling of joy. Do you think this can be used as a general rule?

Jill A. | 897 comments Yes. I love his account of the assurance he gained that he was to go to Russia, the peace that gave him in contrast to the restlessness he felt when he tried out the idea of staying where he was, even though that was a more logical choice.
This is what spiritual writers have always said. Is it Ignatius who talks about desolations and consolations?

I don't know. I think the human ability for self-deception is too vast for a simple rule to be applied across the board.
