"Shit" he swore
"It's her birthday"
"No not hers"
She bit her lip and looked over at him. "Your moms." She said, not meaning it as a question.
"Yeah it is" he said looking down and fidgeting his hands
She rubbed his back. "What do you usually do on her birthday?"
"Go to her grave and put down her favorite flowers" he said beating himself up for forgetting
"Let's go now then. Don't worry. It's okay." She said, gathering up their clothes.
"Okay" he said sighing as he got up and pulled on his clothes
Amy dressed quickly and took his hand.
He took her hand as they walked down the stairs quietly hoping not to wake Ally
"Do you have a car?" She whispered.
"Yeah,in the garage" he said as he pressed the button to open the garage door
"Yes please" he said handing her the keys
She caught his keys and sat in the car, starting it.
He say in the passenger seat holding his head in his hands "Stop at the flower shop" he whispered
She nodded and pulled out of the garage, driving toward the flower shop.
He sighed and sat back in the seat
"Talk to me." She said, keeping her eyes on the road.
"I don't know what to say really...I'm just upset"
She reached over and took his hand. "What about?"
"I never forget her birthday. Ever." he said squeezing her hand
"She'll understand." Amy whispered.
"I hope so" he said as she pulled up in front of the flower shop
She parked and turned the car off. "Shall I wait in here?"
"You can come if you want to" he said as he got out the car
She shrugged and stepped out, following him inside
He opened the door for her
She smiled and stepped in, the aroma of flowers making her sneeze
"Allergies?" he asked her as he went and picked up a bouquet of different colored carnations, her favorite
He smiled "Really?" he said as he brought them to the counter and paid for them
"Oh" he said as took her hand leaving the shop
She walked back with him to the car and stepped in, starting the engine.
"You know where it is?" he asked her
She nodded. "It's basically my second home." She said, pulling out of the parking lot.
He nodded his head and sat back holding the flowers
Amy was silent for the rest of the ride
He was quiet thought of his mother running through his mind the whole time
She parked outside the pitch dark cemetery. "Hope you're not afraid of the dark."
"I'll be fine,and you'll be there with me. Right?"
"Of course." She smiled, turning the car off.
He got out of the car looking at the rows of graves that lay before them
