Was it worth the read? This one and I don't seem to connect.

Eh. I didn't especially like it, but it did make me feel smart yesterday - my husband was reading some theology book and didn't understand a reference to Scylla and Charybdis, which I only knew because of Circe. Soooo...
If you're not enjoying it, it doesn't really get better. I ended up speeding up the audiobook quite a lot. Part of me was bored, the other part of me just really didn't like Circe as a character all that much. But YMMV.

I tried and abandoned twice. I am going to try it on audio (the others were print, and I own the book) so I am waiting for my library. I just today asked Kris if she could lead the August discussion. I just don't think I am the right person for this one. That said, I would like feeling smart!

It's a really good listen! I found the less brain power I put into it, the more I liked it.

Encouraging news! I will patiently await its arrival. Overdrive says 4 weeks.

Okay, well after trying twice to read my copy of Circe that is sitting on my shelf, and never getting past page 75 I decided to try the audiobook. I was waiting patiently to move up the line for a copy from one of my two public libraries (shhhh) when I remembered that I actually work for a university, and universities often have books. And like magic I now have the Circe audiobook! I am finishing two other (excellent) print books but I did listen to this book for part of my ride home yesterday and a bit this morning. The reader is very very good, and I still can't find a way to care less about this story. Still plugging away but I am just not a mythology girl I guess.

This is exactly my experience. The reader is great, and if I don't ask questions it floats along. Miller is a fine writer technically, and I don't think I can blame her for the fact I have zero interest in learning more about, or empathizing with, any of these gods or mortals. When I start to question why anyone does anything I just remind myself that these stories are thousands of yeas old and, to paraphrase Jessica Rabbit, they're just drawn that way.

Don't forget we are reading Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup in June, and we can still talk about [book:The Heart's Invisible Furies|33253215, our April book.
