Yeah, Richard Marx doesn't seem to be quite as "used up" looking for the part of Larry.

I've read The Stand more than once, and during my latest reading the most vivid casting choice I kept seeing in my mind's eye was Jeremy Davies as "Trashcan Man". He's made a career playing just these sort of reedy, creepily "off" characters.

I have been hoping they would remake this ala Lord of the Rings style with multiple movies. I think Matthew McConaughy would be great as Flagg, he can do creepy (Frailty) and charming. I did like Gary Sinise as Stu and Laura San Giacomo as Nadine but everyone rlse is disposable to me. I couldn't stand Molly Ringwald or Harold or Larry.
On another note I think Andy Serkis could make a great Trashcan Man.

Finally! A remake I can actually get excited about! And a remake that needs to happen. I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of Tommyknockers as well. I really loved the remake of The Shining, it fit the book so much better and I was genuinely surprised that Steven Weber could actually be scary!

I really liked Rob Lowe as Nick. He has that ageless, angelic face.

I wasn't fond of Laura San Giacomo as Nadine, but can't think of anyone better at the moment.

Molly Ringwald was a HORRID Frannie.
