You are the most recent in a list of people who have said they are watching it on Netflix. I may have to re-watch as well.

Netflix...a gift, and a curse!

Erin (ems84) | 2664 comments Just read about this on Facebook and I am a big fan of Matthew McConaughey so I would totally approve of him playing the role of Flagg.

Kandice | 4387 comments Wow! I mean...just wow.

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments Let's hope this is true: that the Stand could finally get it's truly deserved Hollywood treatment.

Andrea Leoni | 180 comments I'm not sure about it. But it's going to be a difficult casting. I would probably be dubious about everyone

message 57: by Noorilhuda (new)

Noorilhuda Noorilhuda | 8 comments The way that McConaughey has performed in the last 2 years - and especially with Interstellar, he is the 'actor' leading man Hollywood has been looking for. It's his moment. He'll be good in anything.

Cheryl Hall | 26 comments I've heard that they are doing four films, I hope so as I can't see how anyone could produce a true adaptation in one movie.

Can't wait to see who is cast.

message 59: by Alexander (new)

Alexander (BeetleXo7) Nor me, what they end up doing is going to be interesting.

message 60: by CJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

CJ (chefcjlong) I don't see him as a bad guy.....If anything I would think Jackie Earle Haley would be a better Flagg.....

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments Flagg carries a natural charm....and McConaughey has that in spades.

Haley absolutely has the acting chops to pull off Flagg, but he is so...small! Unless they did some filming mumbo jumbo to change his stature I just can't see him encompassing the evil charm that Flagg has.

Yeah I guess so I just think he would pull it off....That would be the best part though some little guy like that that is controlling everything...

message 65: by Leah (new) - rated it 3 stars

Leah | 24 comments Ooooh! Gerard Butler would be a good Flagg. I really like the idea of Andrew Lincoln as Stu. Norman Reedus could maybe pull off Lloyd but not Nick. I actually like the idea of Paul Dano playing Nick.

message 66: by Leah (new) - rated it 3 stars

Leah | 24 comments Actually I think Matthew McConaughey is my favorite pick for Flagg. Jackie Earle Haley as trashcan man.

Kandice | 4387 comments Leah wrote: "Actually I think Matthew McConaughey is my favorite pick for Flagg. Jackie Earle Haley as trashcan man."

I was thinking the same thing!!! :D

Nathan Jodry (theycallmewitness) | 79 comments I have to read the book again and watch some more movies before I comment on this. Hold up! I think I am commenting as I type this..

Y'all did throw out some good suggestions though. I think I'm going to have to give The Stand a reread real soon.

That said.... I do remember that the last sentence of The Stand means a whole hell of a lot when you think of all the books King has written over the years. /tried to be as vague as possible..

Wow, four movies? That would be awesome.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Very exciting news that the studio wants it to be huge. I really hope it is as amazing as the article says it should be.
Four movies seems like a lot, though. Although, it also seems awesome, because then they could adapt it as well as it deserves :D

Andrea Leoni | 180 comments Recently Big Bang theory's Jim Parsons said he'd like to be in the movies. What do you think about it?

I was thinking about trashcan man

Kandice | 4387 comments Jim Parsons' could play Harold Lauder if he didn't play him as Sheldon.

Did that make sense?

message 73: by Noorilhuda (new)

Noorilhuda Noorilhuda | 8 comments Parson is a good actor, but he is stuck as the goof-ball genius and even his voice during Emmy acceptance speeches (even for the dramatic turn in gay drama) turns squeaky like Sheldon's. Unfortunately for any different work, he'll (and we'll) have to wait for post-BBT days.

message 74: by Jeff (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments We would need someone that's hefty to play Harold.... maybe Jonah Hill? I think he has the chops to pull it off.

Andrea Leoni | 180 comments I also thought about Lauder, but he hasn't the right bidy for it

TheLongWait wrote: "We would need someone that's hefty to play Harold.... maybe Jonah Hill? I think he has the chops to pull it off."

Why didn't I think of that? Oh wait...
Andy wrote: "I guess I should add a couple suggestions of my own... how about James Franco as Larry, Jonah Hill as Harold, Timothy Olyphant or Josh Brolin as Stu, Kit Harrington as Nick, and maybe Paul Dano as the Trashcan Man?"

Also, here's a thought: instead of Flagg, McConaughey could play Tom Cullen.

"M-O-O-N, that spells moon tower."

message 77: by Jeff (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments Sorry Andy. ..hadn't read all the posts.

message 78: by Leah (new) - rated it 3 stars

Leah | 24 comments Jim Parsons could play Nick, then his voice wouldn't be a factor. :)

message 79: by Jeff (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments I still think Hoffman or Murray for Bateman....maybe Bradley Cooper for Stu....or perhaps Nick. Hoe about Will Ferrell for Tom Cullen?

message 80: by Jeff (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments And heres a crazy thought....Jim Carrey for Lloyd.

i'm basing my opinion solely on having just watched him play in True Detective. He was amazing.

TheLongWait wrote: "Its been confirmed....McConaughey as Flagg is official."

Most of the reports I'm seeing still say that he's only in talks for the role, but a few do sound more definitive (like this Guardian report): http://www.theguardian.com/film/2014/....

Do you have a link to anything else showing that it's a done deal?

message 87: by Jeff (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments I know the AV Club had it as well as Consequence of Sound.

message 88: by [deleted user] (new)

TheLongWait wrote: "I know the AV Club had it as well as Consequence of Sound."

I just looked both of those up and they both reference the Guardian article as the source of the news. However, as the AV Club article points out: "But until any official word, his casting—like the military creating ebola in an underground bunker—is still a rumor at this point."

Sorry, I don't mean to keep throwing cold water on this... I hope it happens and it looks like it's going to, but there hasn't been any official announcement from the producers at this point as far as I can tell.

I've been reading the AV Club for years, but I wasn't aware of Consequence of Sound. Looks like a cool site, thanks!

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments Well.....maybe I jumped the gun....we shall now say its sorta kinda maybe official...

message 90: by B (new) - rated it 5 stars

B Josh Boone has said on twitter "There's no truth to this rumor. I'm not saying it won't happen, but there's no truth to it. We haven't had a conversation." https://twitter.com/JoshBooneMovies/s...

Regina Cox | 6 comments John C Reilly or Ethan Suplee as Tom Cullen, and Justin Timberlake would make a great Larry Underwood.

message 92: by [deleted user] (new)

I think Pat Monahan from Train would make a better Larry.

Good god I hate that band... but I can picture that. He does kind of fit the picture in my head of Larry.

Kandice | 4387 comments But does he act?!

He does look a little strung out at times and I think he would fit really well.

I saw him on an episode of CSI a couple seasons ago playing a musician and he did really well.

Part One to start production/shooting in April 2015?

message 98: by [deleted user] (new)

Kathryn wrote: "He does look a little strung out at times and I think he would fit really well"

I know when I originally read the book back in the 80s I was picturing Richard Marx in my head when I thought of Larry, so the Train guy would be a definite upgrade to my mental image of that character.

SUSAN *Nevertheless, she persisted* (susan-workstosupportbookhabit) After watching his performance in "True Detective" , M. McC. will make a great Flaggg.

message 100: by Regina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Regina Cox | 6 comments Train guy is too old, IMO. Larry is supposed to be in his late 20s. Pat Moynahan is well into his 40s. Jeremy Renner would be great. He has a lovely voice, and he plays a conflicted jerk well.
