The Stand remake - Matthew McConaughey as Flagg?
Just read about this on Facebook and I am a big fan of Matthew McConaughey so I would totally approve of him playing the role of Flagg.
Wow! I mean...just wow.
Let's hope this is true: that the Stand could finally get it's truly deserved Hollywood treatment.
I'm not sure about it. But it's going to be a difficult casting. I would probably be dubious about everyone
The way that McConaughey has performed in the last 2 years - and especially with Interstellar, he is the 'actor' leading man Hollywood has been looking for. It's his moment. He'll be good in anything.
I've heard that they are doing four films, I hope so as I can't see how anyone could produce a true adaptation in one movie.Can't wait to see who is cast.
Nor me, what they end up doing is going to be interesting.
I don't see him as a bad guy.....If anything I would think Jackie Earle Haley would be a better Flagg.....

It is going to be 4 films that has been confirmed when I find the page I will post it....I will go look so I will post it soon...
Flagg carries a natural charm....and McConaughey has that in spades.

Yeah I guess so I just think he would pull it off....That would be the best part though some little guy like that that is controlling everything...
Ooooh! Gerard Butler would be a good Flagg. I really like the idea of Andrew Lincoln as Stu. Norman Reedus could maybe pull off Lloyd but not Nick. I actually like the idea of Paul Dano playing Nick.

I have to read the book again and watch some more movies before I comment on this. Hold up! I think I am commenting as I type this..Y'all did throw out some good suggestions though. I think I'm going to have to give The Stand a reread real soon.
That said.... I do remember that the last sentence of The Stand means a whole hell of a lot when you think of all the books King has written over the years. /tried to be as vague as possible..

Very exciting news that the studio wants it to be huge. I really hope it is as amazing as the article says it should be. Four movies seems like a lot, though. Although, it also seems awesome, because then they could adapt it as well as it deserves :D

Jim Parsons' could play Harold Lauder if he didn't play him as Sheldon. Did that make sense?
Parson is a good actor, but he is stuck as the goof-ball genius and even his voice during Emmy acceptance speeches (even for the dramatic turn in gay drama) turns squeaky like Sheldon's. Unfortunately for any different work, he'll (and we'll) have to wait for post-BBT days.
We would need someone that's hefty to play Harold.... maybe Jonah Hill? I think he has the chops to pull it off.
I also thought about Lauder, but he hasn't the right bidy for it

Jim Parsons could play Nick, then his voice wouldn't be a factor. :)
I still think Hoffman or Murray for Bateman....maybe Bradley Cooper for Stu....or perhaps Nick. Hoe about Will Ferrell for Tom Cullen?
And heres a crazy thought....Jim Carrey for Lloyd.

I'm glad to hear he got the role, he should be great in it.

I know the AV Club had it as well as Consequence of Sound.

John C Reilly or Ethan Suplee as Tom Cullen, and Justin Timberlake would make a great Larry Underwood.
I think Pat Monahan from Train would make a better Larry.

I know when I originally read the book back in the 80s I was picturing Richard Marx in my head when I thought of Larry, so the Train guy would be a definite upgrade to my mental image of that character.

After watching his performance in "True Detective" , M. McC. will make a great Flaggg.
Train guy is too old, IMO. Larry is supposed to be in his late 20s. Pat Moynahan is well into his 40s. Jeremy Renner would be great. He has a lovely voice, and he plays a conflicted jerk well.
You are the most recent in a list of people who have said they are watching it on Netflix. I may have to re-watch as well.
