Titus Wudrum | 1 comments I read this book some years ago, maybe 2010-2015. I don't remember too much about it other than the general setting - it followed a team of researchers who, through a machine whose functionality they didn't entirely understand, observe the life of a distant insectoid alien and from what they see try to understand his world, biology, society, psychology, etc. The bug alien lives in a hive and works at a depressing factory, and they can't communicate with his planet. The title might have had lake somewhere in it, and the research facility at which the bug alien was observed could have had something to do with a lake, but I'm really not sure on that. I think the cover depicted the insectoid alien from the front, the barren, arid surface of it's world behind it. That's about all I remember save for some vague ideas about what happens at the end.

Here's the Google Books preview of Blind Lake by Robert Charles Wilson - Andy's suggestion:

https://books.google.com/books?id=0GJ... There are different cover images.
