The Lost Symbol (Robert Langdon, #3) by Dan Brown
The Lost Symbol

Book #3 of Dan Brown's Robert Langdon series

Book Summary:
In this stunning follow-up to the global phenomenon The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown demonstrates once again why he is the world’s most popular thriller writer.

The Lost Symbol is a masterstroke of story-telling that finds the damed symbologist Robert Langdon in a deadly race through a real-world labyrinth of codes, secrets, and unseen truths… all under the watchful eye of Brown’s most terrifying villain to date. Set within the hidden chambers, tunnels, and temples of Washington D.C., The Lost Symbol is an intelligent, lightning-paced story with surprises at every turn. This is Dan Brown’s most exciting novel yet.

I will be helping Lynn out with this thread this month! I have not read the previous books, so I may not keep up with the details very well. I hope everyone is enjoying the series!

I look forward to seeing your thoughts when you get to it, Rida. Is anyone else still reading this series? What are your thoughts so far?

Valerie (darthval) | 411 comments I read this one when it first came out. I have to say it was not my favorite of the Langdon books. It was just okay.

What did you think was different about this one that made it not as good as the previous book? Likes / dislikes?

Valerie (darthval) | 411 comments I have to agree with RitaSkeeter. Plus, I think it also lacked some intensity.

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) I think it's wonderfully silly. A page turner, interesting, even thrilling sometimes. Just don't overthink it. Relax and enjoy it. It holds together well enough.

When I read it, I didn't bother with a review though. For one thing, like RitaSkeeter said, it's a same same same, but then so were the James Bond books. I don't hold it against the author in this case.

I'm just getting started.

Claire | 38 comments This would have been a lot better if it was shorter, it started to drag about halfway through and the story finished about 5 chapters before the book ended.

Kathy Warner | 18 comments I finished this a few days ago. Is anyone else getting a little sick of the whole Robert Langdon business? I'm ready for Dan Brown to introduce a new character. Its like reading the same book over and over again. I love Dan Brown but I was pretty much all set with Langdon after reading Angels and Demons (which I loved).

Valerie (darthval) | 411 comments I agree with RitaSkeeter, Inferno was much better. I started the book very skeptical, but I have to say that I loved it.

As for non-Langdon book, I really enjoyed both Deception Point and Digital Fortress.

Kathy Warner | 18 comments Maybe I will look at those other two books. Thanks!

Gloria Pearson-Vasey (onaquest) I agree. I was disappointed with this book.

Glad to hear that it picks up again with the next book.

About half-way through (been a busy month).

I'm having fun with it. I like the play with symbols and mythology. Interestingly, I just spoke to someone over the weekend who said she was taking her first trip to Washington DC, and she's mapped out her trip using this book. So far, most of what I've seen is underground.

Wonder if the giant squid really exists?

Hilary Evans (hilevans83) | 3 comments This was definitely my least favorite out of all the Robert Langdon books. I was really disappointed, because I've always been fascinated with a lot of the symbols that supposedly were placed in this country when America was first being built. The book was ok, but it wasn't anywhere near as good as he usually is.

Emily Klein So I'm way way behind on my to read list, just finished Davinci code and started this one. I'm hoping I like it better than everyone else did. I love American history and I've been to D.C. do hopefully it's great!

Ioana | 129 comments I think The Lost Symbol was the weakest of his books. Thankfully, book #4 gets better again.
