William Sewell | 4 comments Question: I have two editions of the same book already on my page and would like to combine them as the new edition without losing all of the great feedback and traction I got with the first edition. How do I do that?

Melaslithos | 1360 comments For combining books:

1/ Click on "combine edition", either on your author page or on any of your book's page.
2/ Select the books you want to combine.
3/ Click on "combine".

You're done!

To set the new edition as the default edition:

William Sewell | 4 comments Thank you!! I went to my page and when I got to my page I found that some kind soul had already taken care of it. Thank you mystery person. I did find that the new addition did not show up on any of the lists in place of teh previous edition. Is that normal?

message 4: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1360 comments Only the author can choose the default edition of a book (the one that will appear on searches, author page, etc.)
Instructions are above.

If by lists you mean listopia, yes, it's normal for the edition that was voted on to show rather than later changes.

If you meant lists like series display/pages, search results, your author page — those can take 10 minutes to 72 hours to update (thumbnail heavy areas like the series section of your author page seem to be slowest).

If you later spot duplicate editions on a listopia (that wasn't about particular cover items/themes where the duplicates might have been intended), you can request a librarian to consolidate the duplicates. That and removing inappropriate to listopia description books is about all librarians can do with the listopias (they cannot do anything about which edition shows, the voting, etc.).

Peter Andrews (petervermont) | 2 comments I am a novice librarian.

After selecting 'combine editions' I am shown a new page with all of my author's books.

How do I select the books that I wish to combine?

I do not see any check boxes or other means of multiple selection.

Renske | 12222 comments According to your profile you are not a librarian. (Being a member of this group doesn't make you a librarian.)

Peter Andrews (petervermont) | 2 comments That would explain it! I sent in the application only a few days ago.

message 9: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Chase | 7 comments I have a question for librarians - 2 editions of my book are listed on the Listopia list Best Epic Fantasy at position 124 with 25 votes and at position 584 with only 2 votes. The 2 votes are on the latest addition, how do I get all the votes combined so that 27 votes show up in total?

I've tried combining editions but since there is only one ASIN number it's not recognizing the other works. Please help!

Z-squared | 8575 comments Tyler, I have removed duplicates from that list. Now your book is at 117 with 29 votes.

Tyler Chase | 7 comments Thank you so much for the prompt attention. I found the same issue in the following 9 Listopia categories for my book:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/htnzax08sr0...

It's the same case where the earlier edition has 15 to 25 votes, but the new edition only shows 3. Could you please combine them on those lists as well.

Thank you!!

message 12: by Renske (new)

Renske | 12222 comments 11 All lists with your book done. (For some lists is was good to do the check for duplicates, as there were also other books with duplicates.)

Tyler Chase | 7 comments Super! Thanks!!

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments Looks like someone added a bunch of bookcovers to the photos section of Throne of Novoxos.

Tyler Chase | 7 comments That was me, the author. When I attempted to update the cover to the new one, I was told that I did not have access to do that and that I had to add a new edition to put a new cover on. Sorry for the confusion, but all I wanted to do, as the author, is update the cover.

Tyler, Goodreads policy is to keep all published covers because users like to shelve the edition that matches the one they own. Instead, we create alternate cover editions (ACEs), and you as the author have the ability to set the new cover as the default edition. Unfortunately, I'm on my mobile and can't make ACEs at the moment. I would highly suggest starting a new thread asking for help adding ACEs for your book.

Missy Welsh (missywelsh) | 11 comments Is there some way for the new edition of a book to be the default view? I'm getting the rights back to some of my books and self-publishing them as (revised/expanded) 2nd editions.

Also, is there some way I should mark the 1st editions as being out of print/unavailable?

Thank you!

As the author, you have that ability. Here's how: http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/31...
