I read this book in primary school (UK, between age 5 and 11) which would have been between 1985 and 1991. No idea of a title or author. The main character could split himself into 2 twins. One plot point was that he had to drink sugary fizzy drinks (soda) to keep his energy up whilst he was split. To combine back to 1 person the ‘twins’ had to have physical contact. There was a storyline danger that they had to overcome, which I cannot remember anything about.
