Yes.

That's why I don't like shorts: if they're interesting, I always want the rest of the story.

And it takes a LOT more effort to produce the rest of the story.

I wrote my short story Too Late (on my blog and on Wattpad), and it took 167K words to even start answering 'what next.'

message 309: by David (new)

David Hadley Yes.

I think I'm going to start keeping these story scenes back until I develop them into a full short story, then put them up on Wattpad maybe.

It's been a while since I wrote a short story, I ought to get back into the habit sometime.

What are your goals for yourself as a writer? Me, I'm the kind who goes all in on something - the novel I just published (my first) took fifteen years of hard work to write. And, looking back, I don't feel the time was wasted. And I can't wait to getting back to writing the rest of that story.

All the eggs in one basket - yes, but what a basket! IMHO, of course.

I honestly don't know.

Like you my first few books took years each to write, but now I understand the elements of story much better I'm moving towards 3 or 4 a year.

Is there a choice?

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments David wrote: "Is there a choice?"

Yes. Most men don't.

Why do I say that? Because I nagged husband for five years about getting a snowblower for the driveway - no dice. His cardiologist says it ONCE, the machine is acquired.

Most men don't what?

Our ONLY revenge is that on average we live 7 years longer than our men. You can have your say (or lack of it), but passive-aggressive behavior has its cost. And not just to the intended victim.

Plus I insisted his life insurance be paid up if he was going to go out there and weekend-warrior-like shovel snow - with no other exercise all winter. Ditto now that he insists on going on 20-mile bike rides with over a week between them - and no other exercise during the interim.

Meanwhile, I write - and boy, do I have material! Don't want me to bottle all that reaction up, do you?

Oh, wait - you aren't listening.

Never mind.

message 349: by David (new)

David Hadley Of course I'm listening.

And I agree with whatever it was you said.
