rachel, x (typedtruths) | 1368 comments Sorry but just wondering what to do as I own a kindle version of Melt but the ISBN on my ebook is the same as this paperback: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1.... I'm not sure what the protocol is now. Do I add a new edition without an ISBN or is the paperback version wrong or what?

Thanks! :)

Melaslithos | 1360 comments Hi,

If you have a Kindle version, you should use ASIN and not ISBN.

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 1368 comments What if it has an ISBN number though and not an ASIN? I know they normally do but mine just has an ISBN no.

message 4: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1360 comments I can't find it on Amazon. Can you please give me a link?

Melaslithos | 1360 comments So, the book is apparently not in print anymore/to be re-published in November.

If you can't find any ASIN on your Kindle (or maybe Amazon page? I do not use Kindle and Amazon for ebooks, so I have no idea what it looks like), I think you can add the Kindle without the ASIN.

I have noticed that sometime, the ISBN written inside ebooks is the one attributed to printed books, because authors forget to change this when they prepare their books for printing in a electronic format. I don't know if that's the case with your book.

If another librarian comes through here, maybe he'll have better suggestions.

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 1368 comments @Melaslithos I have this problem a lot with Netgalley books so I thought I would see what you guys thought. I think I'll just add a kindle edition without any ASIN/ISBN numbers and add a librarian note not to add one for now. Thanks for your help! :)

That's fine.

Ohh, it's a NetGalley? They are not actually the published Kindle Edition. They are in a format that Kindle will support but if you didn't get it from the Amazon store, it's not the actual "Kindle Edition" and therefore won't have an ASIN. The ISBN is from the paperback because ebooks are just digital versions of the printed version that has the printed ISBN in the front and they don't always get removed for the digital edition. That doesn't mean the ebook edition has the same ISBN as the paperback.

By all means, add it to GR leaving the ISBN/ASIN blank for now... when the Kindle Edition gets added to Amazon with an ASIN, you or someone else can go back and fill it in here. But for now, don't try to enter an ASIN/ISBN for it - the ASIN doesn't exist yet and trying to add an ISBN would just be incorrect.

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 1368 comments @Robin Okay. That makes sense now. I'll just leave my copy as the paperback version then. Thanks so much for explaining!

@Rivka Thank you! :)
