I read this book for the ATY 2019 Reading Challenge Week 2: a book with one of the 5 Ws in the title.
A very interesting book! It is just after WWII. GIs come home from the war with dreams and stars in their eyes. It is a book that will keep you wondering what happened down the road. Evie Spooner goes on vacation where she meets a guy, falls in love, but doesn't live happily ever after. The thing is she saves her step-father and mother from a murder charge. She steals wartime plunder. She fights racism with it. Now she, a 16-year-old, has the power over what happens to her family. Consequences be damned! I cannot see that she had a choice in the first case, but I also cannot see how she will ever be happy. Another coming of age tale filled with drama and impossible choices.
