What the Moon Saw by Laura Resau
This turned out to be an excellent book for this challenge because it showed the culture of the indigenous Mixtecans in Oaxaca.I hadn't realized this was a young adult book until I started reading it, but I think my 11-yr-old self would have enjoyed it. It flirted too much with magic and spirits for my adult self to be satisfied, but I did like watching Clara become open to understanding the world, her family, and herself in deeper ways.
