Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments +2 points if your book has more than 500,000 ratings on Goodreads OR be written by an author who has been 'shelved' at least 1,670,000 times on Goodreads. (Edit: missing a 0! number is 'shelved' at least 1,670,000 times on Goodreads.)

I'll have to go look what you have then. Apparently I don't like super popular books. Although I will likely have plenty in trendsetting. I am just still deciding if I want to go medium or serious.

Does a pseudonym count as being the same author?

Eg. V. E. Schwab has around 1.1 million shelved and Victoria Schwab has around 880k, and there is no book overlap between them. Would I be able to add those up and consider her an author with 1,670,000+ shelved, or can we only use the shelved count for the author name used on the specific book?

My guess is that pseudonyms don't count but I don't think anyone has ever asked. O.o

message 162: by Claire (new)

Claire Chibi | 1826 comments Yeah that would make the most sense but I thought I'd ask just in case. You never know! :D

message 166: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments What book are you asking about BTW? Maybe we can make it fit for a category we know it will work for. :)

message 167: by Claire (new)

Claire Chibi | 1826 comments Vengeful and/or A Gathering of Shadows, both have been buddy read here before but no tv/movie and both were published fairly recently.

I think the Shades of Magic series has been optioned for a tv show but that doesn't count.

message 168: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments Well A Gathering of shadows works for +2 points if your book has more than 30,000 ratings on Goodreads OR be written by an author who has been 'shelved' at least 100,000 times on Goodreads.

message 169: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments Also you said it worked for this?

+2 points if your book has been buddy read in this group before (prior to May 2019).

So I think the max you can get is 4. Since you can't combine both Bandwagon and Trendsetter.

message 170: by Claire (new)

Claire Chibi | 1826 comments These are both on the Bandwagon list though.

Did you want it to be on the trendsetter list?

Best way to eat! I watch Friends. :P

message 174: by Claire (new)

Claire Chibi | 1826 comments I'm not sure I understand? The criteria I mentioned have all been for the Bandwagon list, not Trendsetter lol :D

message 175: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments Sorry. I'm tired so I might have confused you.

Both are from bandwagon and both are worth two points so they are worth 4.

I was just mentioning trendsetter because I saw the rule you can't combine. :)

message 176: by Claire (last edited Apr 15, 2019 01:07AM) (new)

Claire Chibi | 1826 comments Oh yup, thanks for reminding me! :D

I meant that if pseudonyms counted, then it would count for +6 for Bandwagon (No Trendsetter items)

message 177: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments NP. This was actually my first team reading that rule. Hence my surprise. I need to learn to read the rules....

True. I didn't think of combining a rating one and a shelved one. O.o

Sorry, I noticed I'd missed an '0' yesterday so I edited it in the first posts which lists the bonus points, but forgot to edit it in the post lower down ☺

Yep, the 1,000,000 is high, but hopefully you'll be able to get to the max of 6 bonus points without using that one most of the time as the more popular books have been buddy read in the group before, or turned into a film or tv show, or have been published more than 10 years ago ☺

Hi Claire, if it's obvious on Goodreads - that is it has to say either on the book's Goodreads page that its a pseudonym, or on the author's page, then you can use either the pseudonym or the real name, so for A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic, #1) by V.E. Schwab , you could use either V.E. Schwab or Victoria Schwab as both are listed.
and for Wait for You (Wait for You, #1) by J. Lynn you could use either J. Lynn or Jennifer L. Armentrout as both are listed.

If it wasn't obvious though, and we couldn't clearly see that the name was a pseudonym for another author, then we wouldn't be able to count it. Does that make sense?

Sorry, I don't think I answered your question, you'd have to pick one or the other to use, you wouldn't be able to add them together because on that book for example, both authors are listed on the books page, and the book then appears under both author's shelves, so if you added together the times shelved by each author name, you'd be counting that book twice.

You could in theory add them together if the author wasn't listed on both works though, so Lyla Payne and Trisha Leigh are the same person, but both names aren't listed on their books, so you wouldn't be counting anything twice. It would all depend on how they're listed on Goodreads really.

Hi Siobhan, I would only usually prevent someone from joining a medium team if they've joined medium 2 or 3 times, and haven't read at least 8 books each time. You haven't done that, so there would be no reason for me to not allow you to join a medium team ☺

Jamie | 12271 comments Q: for the last rule on trendsetter- Is it okay if they have written more books as long as it is the first they ever wrote that we are reading. Or is this applying to Single book/Debut authors only?

message 194: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90960 comments Mod
Hi Jamie, it would apply to debut author's, but it can also apply to people who have written more than one book, as long as it is the first book that they wrote that you are reading.

So for example - Carol Beth Anderson has written 5 books, but has only been shelved 442 times, so would count for Trendsetter bonus points.

Her first book was Facing the Sun (Sun-Blessed Trilogy, #1) by Carol Beth Anderson , so if you read that, because it was her first book, even though she's written more since, you could claim the '+2 bonus points if your chosen book is the first book written/published by that author.' (although to be honest this book has only 61 ratings anyway, so you'd max out on bonus points just because it has so few ratings ☺)
