ABANDONED. Time travel to save a school bus

I’m trying to figure out the same of a book I read that involves some time travel. Something I remember specifically is that the main character is trying to prove to someone that he can time travel and they go to a roadside bar and assault a drunk woman to stop her from driving because she would go on to hit a school bus filled with teenagers. It’s also possible that it turns out one of the kids in the bus would have become a serial killer??
