This is an excellent read. It's not the one I nominated but it is among the "don't miss" reads for military sci/fi buffs (in my opinion).

I just started this one!

I read this one the first time when it first came out. I have actually reread it and all the sequels up to Fields of Fire which I have and plan to get to How many books do we all have that we're "planning to get to?).

This series is one of maybe 3 or 4 I'd rate as my favorite sci/fi series.

I was sucked in from the first with this one. It's a matter of taste I suspect. Several of the military novels I like begin where this one begins (so to speak) with the protagonist moving from his/her civilian self to their new self.
