Valentine was insane and, like the most dangerous villains, he really thought he was acting for the greater good. It's a really fitting ending to have his evil plan bring shadowhunters and downworlders closer than ever before, and for him to be killed by Raziel.
Oh, this was the highlight of the story!
I agree with everything you said, Giulia. His zealotry clouded his rational judgment because calling on Raziel and asking for power was just nuts. And, Raziel let him know what he thought about what he’d done to that angel, which made it even more crazy for Valentine to think it was appropriate to summon him.
Actually, this is the typical outcome for most extremists. You make a great point.
