Simon is secretly imprisoned by Shadowhunter Consul Malachi and Inquistor Aldertree. Should Alec have trusted them to keep their word about escorting Simon through the portal? Did you ever suspect them of working with Valentine?

Alec shouldn't have trusted them, knowing how unfriendly all shadowhunters are towards vampires.

I never suspected them of working for Valentine, probably because we had already seen that Inquisitors and important members of the Clave are perfectly able to take unwise decisions on their own, without Valentine's influence.

I have no idea why Alec would have trusted them. It was out of character and a mistake, IMO, by the author.

I was completely surprised that they were in cahoots with Valentine! I agree, Giulia, that they always exhibited poor leadership so it never even occurred to me.
