Every comment I read has Pascal and "Pat" as the same person but in my reading of the book they seem to be two different people. Especially on top of page 152 of Bantam Books paper back. Steinbeck writes " I think I will write Pascal today and enclose it in a note to you." Clearly referring to two separate people. We all know he is writing to Pat and yet he talks about Pascal as a different individual.
