Elise (ellinou) | 525 comments In her typical hilarious style, in this book Mary Roach tackles the science of war. Not the science that will kill the most people on the opposing side, but the one that will keep the most people on this side alive. She participates in a training session for medics in the middle of a battlefield, visits a base in Africa and goes around the mess hall asking about diarrhea, visits a submarine carrying nuclear warheads... all with humour and the greatest respect for what she's describing. Always with the funny anecdotes that will make you literally laugh out loud while you're reading.

As in the other two books I read by her, I loved the construction of this one, how each chapter neatly segued into the next one. And the conclusion was lovely, the last sentence was perfect.
