Best song on a meh album; best forced rhyme - "21 years in captivity, his shoes too small to fit his feet" - not, I suspect, the worst Robben Island could throw at you but I felt his pain! Those acapella vox though.

Not much doubt about the result this week then. Way way out of sight, the gold gong this week to Spacepig with Ghost Town. An early contender but it fell away on the home run, Gangsters, giving the silver to Tim. And leading the pack for the bronze, Tech with 10 Commandments.

With only 4 of the 11 noms hitting double figures, are we left to assume that maybe, this band blows a bit hot and cold?

It was obvious I think that Ghost Town would romp away with this one, even before you nommed it 😉 Things could have been closer if it hadn't been there (which would have been unthinkable, really!)

hot and cold? i'd have to say other than 'in the studio with...', all hot! the majority of the nominations were from early days, mostly ska, before the magnificent forward thinking towering masterpiece 'more specials' broke their own mould. next came 'ghost town' and the first split, leaving jerry dammers to take an enormous amount of studio time to produce the above 'meh' record, hall, golding and staples to become the fun boy three. they reformed without dammers, to celebrate their 30th anniversary with a series of concerts, which continued until various reasons reduced them to a trio, making the no.1 album (that's right, no.1) 'encore' which i had low expectations of, but proves to be as relevant and valid as any of their best stuff! a tremendously vibrant, exciting live act, i saw them several times inc, two of the most memorable triple bills i ever saw (clash/suicide/(coventry) specials + specials/madness/selector), would go to see them in may, but there ain't no tickets left!
