message 1: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) I've decided that I want to come up with a completely different pen name for myself. I came up with "TK Selbach" when I was pretty little, and it's a bit lazy. The only reason I wanted to use my initials was because my middle name starts with K, just like JK Rowling.

I'm still trying to think of what I want to include in my pen name... all I have so far is "Roxanne", or at least some variation of it. I write pretty much any genre, but usually darker stuff. The book I'm working on right now is a dark-ish Urban Fantasy. And I write a lot of Horror short stories in my free time.

I'm not sure if I want my pen name to be spooky sounding or misleading though...

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) I'd prefer to have the first part to be Roxanne, but thanks anyways.

I'm terrible at coming up with names off the top of my head, but here are some pen name generators that might be useful to you:

Allison | 679 comments Roxanne K. Waters, maybe? I don't know. I'm bad at coming up with names:/

The problem with websites like these ones is that I want my name to include Roxanne in it. These generate random names, including the first as well as the last. I'm only trying to come up with a last name, as well as which version of Roxanne goes best with it.

I'm not so sure about the middle inital, but something like Roxanne Waters might work. I'll add it to my list of possible names. :)

I know, but you could always take just part of the randomly generated name and use it; you don't necessarily have to use the whole thing.

Kendra (madamejade) | 253 comments Maybe you could translate a joke that would be really lame in English into another language and use that as your pen name. For example, Kötü Yezar. It sounds enough like a foreign name that most people won't investigate, and those who do will find that it means Bad Writer.
But I called that one. You can't have it.

BookWorm | 5 comments Roxanne K?

I wouldn't be able to tell if they flowed smoothly or not though... Maybe I should just take the ones I kind of like and post them here? Get your opinions?

That'd be fun, but I'd have to think of a good joke first. ^w^

Is just having a single initial for a last name too simple?

message 13: by Celofán (new)

Celofán | 34 comments Roxanne Roll?
Okay, sorry. I had to say it.

But I really like word play. Roxanne Noyd? Roxanne Gree? Roxanne Archee?
...yeah, I'll be leaving now.

message 14: by Allison (new)

Allison | 679 comments Roxanne Quester? Roxanne Steawart?

Idk. I'm brain dead. I'm still thinking though.

message 15: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) I'd like a last name that has some sort of dark meaning... I'm considering Roxanne Acerbi. It means "heartless" or "harsh" in Italian.

I've also come up with Roxanne Archer and Rox Lyrell on my own. I've gotten a vote for each name, so both suggestions are tied.

message 16: by BookWorm (new)

BookWorm | 5 comments Well you want a dark name what about Roxanne Lucifer? Roxanne Bane? Roxi Bane?

message 17: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) Roxi Bane might work... Sounds interesting. I'll consider it. :)

message 18: by Allison (new)

Allison | 679 comments How about Roxanne Apollyon? Apollyon means "destroyer."

message 19: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) I've read online that authors should try to stay away from the beginning of the bookshelf, the end, and near famous authors/ (So no R or M names for sure.)

I'm taking off Acerbi from my list of ideas because it doesn't fit the first name at all. Besides, it's Italian and although it sounds cool, I don't have any Italian ancestors.

My last name is - however - German. So many I should have another German last name...? I'd like to stick with the L because that shelf is very popular.

I've also decided to stick with Roxanne, not a nickname. The reason why is because Roxanne is a unique name added to a common one (Rox + Anne). I'd like to have a last name that gives a similar impression.

Does anyone have any ideas that might fit this criteria? Otherwise, I plan to do some online research (again), and will be posting a whole new list of ideas.

(Roxanne Lyrell is still on the list, by the way.)

message 20: by em_panada (new)

em_panada German 'L' surname possibilities:

(Roxanne) Lewald

(Roxanne or R.) Leimann

(Roxanne) Lerner

and

(Roxanne) Leberecht

(And I would suggest the last name 'Marx', but alas it starts with an 'm')

Anyway I hope you find the name your looking for! Pen names are hard!

Allison | 679 comments My pen name is just my first and middle name and then my last initial;) I mean, it sounds pretty good too: Allison Rene' S.

message 22: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) Ooh, I really like Marx... "Roxanne Marx" has a nice ring to it. And I really like the definition too. :)

message 23: by Allison (new)

Allison | 679 comments Oh yes, that does have a nice ring to it;)

message 24: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) I'm pretty sure Roxanne Marx is the name that I'm going to go with. Thank you for your help everyone! :)

message 25: by Josie (new)

Josie | 25 comments Hmmm, a pen name would be nice! My English teacher, whenever I write for her she shows it to like everyone, maybe I should stop handing them to her. I'll start dropping them on her desk when she isn't looking with an alias name on the top. "Trumpeter" "Maximillian" "Helga" "Greg" "Fuzzy" lol XD

message 26: by Mindy (new)

Mindy Diamond | 190 comments I loved Roxanne Lyrell best

message 27: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 13 comments Omg. I definitely need a pen name. I'm not sure where to start though, with choosing.

message 28: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 13 comments Which one do you guys like the best:

A.J. Nicole
Juliet A. Pierce
Zoe A. Pierce
Peyton Pierce

message 29: by Isaac (new)

Isaac | 8014 comments I like Peyton Pierce. Alliteration is always easy to remember.

message 30: by Allison (new)

Allison | 679 comments I actually like Juliet A. Pierce. But my second would be Peyton Pierce.

message 31: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 13 comments I'm either going to go for Juliet Pierce or Peyton Pierce.

message 32: by purplebookworm (new)

purplebookworm (puplebookworm) My name is Genevieve L Walton. What should my pen name be?

message 33: by Isaac (new)

Isaac | 8014 comments Depends on what you want. Do you want your real name involved, or a pseudonym? I like to initial names myself.

message 34: by Grace (new)

Grace (goodreadscomgracer) | 7 comments My votes are on Peyton Pierce. Looks like you have a lot of good choices, Roxanne!

I've been pondering this myself for years. I don't mind using my first name, Grace, but I don't want to use my last name. I write fantasy mostly and like dark themes.

message 35: by purplebookworm (new)

purplebookworm (puplebookworm) I don't want my first name.

message 36: by Grace (new)

Grace (goodreadscomgracer) | 7 comments You could pull a nickname from your first name, like Eve and go from there, maybe? Or do something similar with your middle and last name. It's also worth considering what genre you write for different sounds.

message 37: by purplebookworm (new)

purplebookworm (puplebookworm) Write now I write Fantasy. I think I'd do more like G. Walton. But idk

message 38: by Grace (new)

Grace (goodreadscomgracer) | 7 comments This pen name generator seems really silly, but it's actually given me some inspiration. At the very least, it's a good starting ground and you can play around with the ideas it comes up with.
