Ok I can keep looking. I think I saw another book that mentioned something similar as well.

Thank you, but no, it's not "The Birds" by du Maurier. Also, the anthology didn't have any well-known story in it as far as I remember, definitely not "Flowers for Algernon".

The story tells of a young couple entering a forest, and they notice songbirds following them in a disturbing manner. Finally they find themselves encircled by birds who have fallen very quiet and look very sinister, and then the birds just pounce on them.
I can't recall the name of the anthology or the story or author.
I hope this is within the group rules (looking for a short story not a book...)
