Pam (bluegrasspam) I'm continuing with my plan to read books I own!

1. Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese
I saw the movie 2 weeks ago and really enjoyed it. It's an important (and heart-breaking) story that needs to be heard. I'm interested to see how the book and movie compare and to experience the writing of Wagamese.

2. Sweetland by Michael Crummey

3. The First Men in the Moon by H.G. Wells
Group read in another GR group

I read Indian Horse and thought it was very good. In my review, I said it is a stunning exposé of the horrors of Canada's church run residential schools.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I haven't seen the movie and would be interested in knowing how it compares.

Janet C-B (goodreadscomjanbookfan) For April, my first book will be Becoming, which I need to read for April 4.

Other books for April:
Night of Miracles

The Accidental Further Adventures of the Hundred-Year-Old Man

Little Fires Everywhere, re-read for a F2F group and an online group.

Laurel Bradshaw (llawryf) | 703 comments I'm currently listening to Becoming. Won't finish it in March though.

April's book club is reading Little Fires Everywhere so I'll be listening to that when I finish Becoming.

Also reading The Aviary Gate and I might actually have some time today. I just haven't been doing as much reading as I used to. Don't know what I'll pick yet after that...

How is the audio for Becoming? I have it on hold at the library. It will be a few more weeks. Currently reading the hardcover.

Raul, if you read Murdoch's The Sea, The Sea, please let me know what you think of it. I've had it sitting on my shelf forever, but I've yet to read it.

The only book I've read on your list is Dust. It's a difficult book because of its content and challenging style. But it is well worth the effort. I gave it 4 stars in my review.

Both Indian Horse and Sweetland are great novels.

Glad to hear that Carrie! I thought I knew what I wanted to read in April and now I am struggling to decide what I am in the mood for! Decisions, decisions...

Janet, it is alright. Michelle narrates it, so it has that "Chicago nasal twang." I am also mildly bothered by the way she pronounces every word beginning with "str" as "shtr." But really that is minor. Her story is interesting, and I am enjoying it.

Laurel Bradshaw (llawryf) | 703 comments I'm debating abandoning The Aviary Gate. Only about 60 pages in, but I'm not liking the dual time-frame - not seeing any connection yet. It's the first of a trilogy. Do I keep going to see if it improves, or bail now?

So many books, so little time....

message 21: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) My big plan changed on April 1! My husband picked up a book from my bookshelf and asked me if it was any good. Of course, I didn’t know since my bookshelves are filled with my books TBR! So, he picked it and I decided to read it- The Riders by Tim Winton.
