Hi! Well first of all Rochester is really talking about Jane. Whenever he talks about his “bride” he’s talking about Jane. It’s a weird thing he does trying to get Jane to realize that he loves her.
And for the actual meaning, I’ve always felt that he’s talking about how depressed he has been in his life. How he’s trapped with that old house and his wife and ward. He hates his life. But then he meets Jane and she brings light back into his life, and in a sense, regenerates him. Suddenly he doesn’t hate his life anymore, he feels new.
Hope this helps!!
