How about The Death of Bunny Munro by Nick Cave - he was lead singer (and founder, I think) of the Australian act, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds?

I recently read River of Salt by Dave Warner (he's from W.A). He was in a punk bank in the 70s and then had some hits with his own band, Dave Warner from the Suburbs. That title isn't out until 1st April but he's written quite a few other popular novels.

The MC has his own band so there are quite a lot of references to music. Should work well!

Oops, thanks Brenda for correcting my linking omission!
If you like biographies, 'Women of Note' by Australian author Rosalind Appleby might fit the bill. It's about Australian female composers. The author is a music journalist and critic.

I would like to choose an Aussie musician/author but I don't typically read such books so I am clueless. Any suggestions?
