You will see that a bot at the bottom of the page changed the title at some point to include the quote. I reverted that change.
A couple things. We use the imprint rather than the main publisher when available. So Michael Joseph is the publisher on this edition and not Penguin.
You do not have to enter the "sort by" field by hand. The system does that for you when you save the book. I fixed a small typo where a space was missing. There are some cases of foreign language editions etc where we have to change that field. If you make an alternate cover edition and your book is newer than the other one, you will use the ACE tool to move the ISBNs.
So overall good job!

Looking at the log (for all the editions) was an eye opener!
Thanks for the info about using the imprint rather than the main publisher - you could see I was hedging my bets with that one :-(
May I confirm a couple of things? I basically did a manual ACE but included my editions details, and copy and pasted the description from the contemporary, same ISBN edition.
Was choosing the manual option the correct thing to do in this case? Would the description have migrated through the system without my intervention?
(My reading of the Librarian Manual implied that if I had used the ACE tool, I would have stripped the other edition of the ISBN which I didn't think was appropriate.)
When you changed/reverted the title of the other edition, did you use the 'undo' link so that the path of alterations was clear cut, or did you just change/edit the field? What is best practice?
You mentioned that you fixed a missing space - was that something I introduced? Do you remember which field it was in? Was I careless with my copy and paste of the description?
Lastly, I filled in the 'sort by' field because it had a red asterisk, so I thought I needed to fill it. I presume, from what you noted, that if I had left it blank, the automation of saving the details would have loaded that field, and with the correct, lower case - which you also fixed :-) Have I understood this correctly?
Sorry if you feel that you have already answered my questions with your first response, but if I get clarity now, I hopefully will make less mistakes and ask less questions as I get more proficient.

When I reverted the change I hit undo. Not all changes can be reverted.
Yes, using the ACE tool moves the ASIN/ISBN. I was just mentioning it. You are correct not to use it for older editions.
I hope I covered everything you asked. It pays off to be conscientious. :)

The only question that I need clarity on is about the description.
I copy and pasted the description. Was that an unnecessary step as it would trickle through as part of the background automation?

I have come across a book title which has an author quote included:
Out of the Dark: ‘Read this book. You'll thank me later.’ David Baldacci
and here is the goodreads link for that page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
The above book has the same ISBN as the book I have in my hands, but my edition was published two days earlier but in the Australian market. It also has a slightly different cover and page count. It is not really an alternative cover within the goodreads parameters, as they were published within days of each over, just in different markets.
So, I created a new edition, leaving out the ISBN, adding the different cover, publication date and new page count.
Here is the link for my new version:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
My instinct was to just change the title of the book by removing the David Baldacci quote, and suffer the wrong cover, but I am new enough not to want to overstep my shiny new librarian pin, so I left it as is.
Did I do the appropriate thing in this instance?
Should I have removed the quote?
Should I have created the new edition with the details to match my book?
Feel free to be harsh, but fair!
Thanks,
