SOLVED. Science Fiction: Earth has fallen out of orbit, flown off the solar system/galaxy. Only few people are alive and in isolated pockets. [s]

It starts with a scene with a family; as Earth has no sun exposure, there is no light or heat from outside,the atmosphere has frozen. The family brings in chunks of frozen oxygen from outside and heats it in their hearth. Two astronauts come in from a nearby (but unconnected) base of sorts. The family uses heavy plastic sheets around their home to prevent the oxygen from leaching out.

I have a feeling it is a book by Robert Heinlein, but could be Assimov or others as well. Either way, it is an old piece of fiction; definitely not contemporary.

I have read it but, for the life of me, cannot remember the title. Please help if you can.
