Spring is about to start in the Northern hemisphere and we invite you to get a bit topsy turvy, right side up, and jumbled up joining this spring challenge from March 21 - June 21, 2019
This is an Individual challenge, but you are playing for points against everyone else who signs up. You can, of course, create alliances with other team members to get ideas of what to read for hard to meet tasks, but ultimately the points are your own.
There are different categories depending on your books per month which are explained below. This means that anyone can join and compete against similar levels of readers
IMPORTANT
You will need to be able to access and edit Google Sheets to join this challenge. We will give you a template, but you need to use it to track your books and your points.
We work on an honour system, so we are not asking you to submit your spreadsheets for review, but all sheets need to be accessible for viewing by all players.
ABOUT
Sign up using this form and we will send you a google tracking sheet that you will use to track your challenge. This will feed into a main tracking sheet HERE that will track the points of all players.
Sign ups close on March 21, 2019
1. PLAYER CATEGORIES
You will be assigned a category of Sapling, Bud, Leaf, Bloom or Daffodil depending on the number of books you read per month (see below for breakdown of categories).
2. HOW TO PLAY
You will be given a list of tasks to choose from each month on this spreadsheet that have points allocated to them as 10, 20, 50 or 100. It is up to you which tasks you decide to cover in the month, but there are some caveats:
SAPLING PLAYERS: No requirements to select books from a certain points range. You are free to choose.
BUD PLAYERS: A minimum of one 100 point, one 50 point, one 20 point and one 10 point tasks must be chosen each month
LEAF PLAYERS: A minimum of two 100 point, two 50 point, one 20 point and one 10 point tasks must be chosen each month
BLOOM PLAYERS: A minimum of four 100 point and three 50 point, two 20 point and two 10 point tasks must be chosen each month
DAFFODIL PLAYERS: A minimum of five 100 point and six 50 point, four 20 point and three 10 point tasks must be chosen each month
Each task can only be completed once.
* note that the month is from March 21-April 21, April 21-May 21, May 21-June 21
3. POINTS TRACKING
Players are responsible for tracking their own points by using the Google Sheet template provided.
This will feed into the overall tracking spreadsheet HERE.
4. BOOK REQUIREMENTS
Unless otherwise specified in the task, (some lower point tasks will allow this) the following books can NOT be used:
* Comic / Graphic / Magna
* Cookbooks
* Textbooks
* Travel Guides
* Poetry
* Poems
* Childrens / Middle Grade novels can only be used where you can verify the word count through AR BookFind as 25,001 words or more. If you can't verify it with that site, you can check if audible has the unabridged version as more than 3 hours. If you can't verify either, then you can't use it (unless the specific task says you can)
5. CHANGES TO BOOKS PER MONTH
At the end of the challenge you will only be able to win in the category that your actual reading puts you in. So you need to monitor your books per month during the challenge and alter your own minimum task requirements.
For example,
* Sally signs up as 8 books per month. She is in the SAPLING category. Within two weeks, she has read 3 books. Sally thinks she will read 9 by the end of the month(BUD category). In order to be eligible to win, Sally needs to make sure she has the minimum requirements for BUD met (i.e. 1 x 100 point, 1 x 50 point, 1x 20 point and 1 x10 point tasks) for the month.
If Sally does not meet these requirements, she will not be eligible to win the SAPLING category at the end of the challenge.
If Sally reads 9 books in March, 4 in April and 4 in May, she would still be considered in the BUD category as for one of the months she was eligible for that category.
