Book Read: Roselynde by Roberta Gellis
Date Read: 09/01/14
Rating: 5 Star
Synopsis: Alinor Devaux is beautiful and very rich. She is also an orphan, but her grandparents had not left her defenseless. She has been trained to manage her estates and to rule her vassals. But then the old king dies and Alinor becomes the ward of Richard Coeur de Lion. Alinor knows that her safety and the well-being of her precious lands rest on her ability to make her warden, Sir Simon Lemagne, her willing slave.Sir Simon has known many women, but never one like Alinor. He is an easy victim. But Alinor tumbles into love. Soon Sir Simon is the only man she will take as a husband. But Simon is no suitable match—he is poor and has no political power. The king would make no profit by permitting Simon to marry Alinor. In their struggle to be united despite the obstacles in their path, Lady Alinor and Sir Simon are swept from the Royal Court in England into King Richard’s Crusade, through the king’s conquest of Cyprus and into the Holy Land. They endure bloody battles and heartrending separations before Simon convinces King Richard to allow their love fruition in marriage.
Roberta Gellis spins a story of honorable knights and beautiful ladies, political intrigue, and a daring crusade through the exotic Holy Land. The historical detail was well researched, the character development made the book addictive and the romance....perfect! I am defiantly going to continue with this series, being a big fan of history and romance, this is the perfect mix for my reading addiction.

Review: At first I was a little disappointed in book, but this being 5th in series, I put it off to a story too long....But by the time I was 1/3 in, I was drawn back into the struggle and couldn't put it down. This struggle has been going on for awhile and had to come to an end and what an ending. This is one time though I loved the ending, I didn't mind seeing the struggle over....
Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.
She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all.
Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.
They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.
War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.

Hope all are having a wonderful holiday !!!!!

Review: As it might be obvious from the book cover it's a survival story. Robbie is a fifteen year old teenager whose parents are research biologists. They live on a little island called Midway near the Hawaiian Islands. Robbie is the only teenager on the island and so she is home-schooled. No T.V., no Internet and no cellphones work on the island. Atleast not often. So Robbie's parents sometimes send her to her aunt who lives on another island called Honolulu. Honolulu has more civilization than Midway. Robbie and her aunt do a lot of things together. They shop, watch T.V., sit by the pool, go out at night..i.e., they have a lot of fun. Until one day when her aunt has to go to LA for work. But Robbie's with her for another week. Robbie doesn't want to go back just yet so they strike a deal. Robbie can stay if her aunt's friend Bobbi checks in on her everyday. Her aunt leaves and Robbie gets a call that Bobbi can't check-in on her. Robbie's never been alone before and it's all she wants so she doesn't tell anyone about Bobbi. She's fine for a day but when she goes out to get dinner a creepy guys grabs her hair and starts calling her Lucy. She escapes but is so freaked out that she plans to leave for Midway the next day. She doesn't want her aunt to worry so she doesn't tell her anything. Robbie, unable to contact her parents due to terrible reception gets on a supply flight by herself. She knows the pilot. She's traveled this way many times. But the copilot Max is someone she doesn't know. The plan takes off and there's no one else on it but Larry (the pilot), Max, Robbie and a lot of supply goods. They face heavy turbulence due to a storm and their engine goes out. Larry plans to crash-land the plane as long as he can control it and Max helps Robbie, who's frozen in shock, to get out. The plane crashes and then sinks. Robbie's drowning but Max manages to pull her and get her on the raft he got from the plane. Larry goes missing. It's just Robbie and Max and the raft. Max has a severe head wound and he doesn't wake up again. Robbie is later forced to throw Max out of the raft as it can't bare a lot of weight and starts to sink. Max is already dead by that point. Robbie survives on water from the rain and one fish that she caught by luck. She survives somehow but she can't bare being alone. So she imagines that Max is with her, that he sleeps a lot and talks only sometimes. But it's not Max talking. It's Robbie reading Max's journal which Max took from the flight before he got out. She spots an island after a few days. It's a reef and the waves around it are so violent that the raft gets shredded and Robbie lands on the beach alone with a swollen eye. She drinks rain water but can't bring herself to kill and eat the animals and birds living there. She almost escapes getting eaten by a shark once. Tired, hungry, thirsty she builds a fire on a dune and curls up beside it. When she wakes up the rain has dozed her fire and she woke up too late to drink from the rain. She sees a ship a short distance away but thinks it's just an hallucination like Max. But a small boat drops from the ship and comes towards the island. People step off the boat and onto the island. Then Robbie, still not believing it, starts to crawl towards them. They spot her and save her. She's taken to the ship where she's treated and fed. She tells them her name and finds out that her parents assumed she'd been abducted by the creepy guy who grabbed her hair. It's been 11 days since the plane crashed. 11 days she survived. With the help of Max's journal to keep her half-sane. On the ship, before reaching Midway, she reads the rest of the journal and finds out Max's sad love story. That he loved a girl named Brandy in high school. That she died when he was driving the car. She made a necklace for him which her art teacher gives Max. It contains her thumbprint on one side and the other side's plain. It was supposed have Max's thumbprint. Later Robbie finds the same necklace in the ruins of the raft on the ship. It has Max's thumbprint too. But it's impossible. She assumes that Max was with her in some form after all.
This book made me realize that we overlook so many things in life. We take it all for granted. Food, water, family, love. We never truly appreciate them until we've lost them. A beautiful, inspirational story.

Review: I knew I would love this book since it is written by another one of my fave authors and I wasn't disappointed...Most know the tale of Camelot but she takes it one step further..... What happens next... I was on the edge of my seat the whole timeand was always left wanting more.....Can't wait to start next book in this series....
The new king of Camelot wears no shining armor: Arthur and his knights have fallen and a new king rules.
In the darkest forest...
A scared, forsaken youth has become the most powerful –– and feared –– man in the world. Ruthless and unrestrained, Kerrigan has long ceased to be human.
In the heart of London...
A spirited peasant mired in drudgery, Seren dreams of becoming her own woman, but never expects that by fleeing her fate, she will meet her destiny.
Their worlds are forever changed...
Kerrigan's goal is simple: barter or kill Seren to claim Arthur's Round Table. Yet she is the one person who holds no fear of him. More than that, her nobility sparks something foreign inside him. In his nether realm, kindness is weakness and a king who harbors any sort of compassion loses his throne.
For countless centuries, Kerrigan has lived alone in the shadows. Now Seren's courage has forced him into the light that will bring either salvation to both of them...or death.

Synopsis - In this irresistibly imagined below stairs answer to Pride and Prejudice, the servants take center stage. Sarah, the orphaned housemaid, spends her days scrubbing the laundry, polishing the floors, and emptying the chamber pots for the Bennet household. But there is just as much romance, heartbreak, and intrigue downstairs at Longbourn as there is upstairs. When a mysterious new footman arrives, the orderly realm of the servants’ hall threatens to be completely, perhaps irrevocably, upended.
I am a huge fan of Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice being my favourite book of all time. I can't even tell you how many times I read that book. So when I picked up LONGBOURN I was going in with a deep-seated aversion to this book....BUT TO MY SURPRISE I REALLY ENJOY IT!
Longbourn a nice adaptations to Jane Austen's book, never trying to rewrite or reinterpret her work, she just gave us a wonderful story of events from the downstairs perspective. I think Longbourn is one of the best Pride and Prejudice spin-offs that I have read. I highly recommend this book to fans of Jane Austen's, or fans of Downton Abbey, a perfect time-period book.

Review:
So far I've really loved this series. It's been fun and I've liked the novellas in between. This was my least favourite. It took a long time for the romance to start between Xavier and Tess, not really until the last third of the book. I liked the beginning, but it was slow in the middle. There was a fight at the end, but really a bit disappointed in this instalment. This book was just different from the others in the series.

How are you coming on your book Arshiya?

Start. Although I really should, as I've got lots of series started and really want to finish some of them.

And I'm in bookshelf battle, Ptp and Dusty bookshelf too! Didn't do FWYS though since I normally read a series in one go and I had only one incomplete series with more than 2 books. :)
I'm also in another team challenge in Romance lover's for the challenge impaired. This one's about to finish in 2 more weeks.

Yep, it definitely was a late one. I will look up your page.

Review: Very amusing. Quite funny too. It's only my second science fiction novel and I quite liked it. Arthur Dent only remaining resident (apart from Trillian) to survive the destruction of earth only to find out that Earth and his whole species was just an elaborate experiment conducted by mice to find out the ultimate question. Funny and short plus with an excellent world The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was definitely worth reading. Looking forward to the next book in the series :)
