R3: SS Midnight Serial Killers (12)
Another thing that's exciting, is that I have a review for this book even before Friday (my time)*** Shadow and Bone
I spent too much of the early half of this book beating my head against a desk to say that I loved this book. It's not that this is a badly written book, so much, that it's not anything particularly special. I remember feeling the same thing when I was reading Throne of Glass #1. Particularly as Veronica Roth boasts this novel as 'unlike anything she's ever read'. However, there were many elements in the second half that were highly enjoyable. Enjoyable enough that I would consider reading the second book in this series.
Alina is an orphan who discovers an untapped well of magic within her at the point where she would otherwise die. As probably predicted, this changes her life. Suddenly, she is thrown from poverty and the army, into stately life among courtiers and royalty. And the Darkling.
For some reason, I never quite liked the Darkling. There were things about him, such as his manoeuvring of the amazing Grisha Genya that made me see him as conniving even before I had any reason to do so. It seems as though I'm in the minority here. However, I was very glad when it came to the middle of the book and Alina's childhood friend Mal came back into the fore.
Bardugo's descriptions of Ravka and the various powers that Grisha have was glossed over and fairly confusing very early on in the book. There was a lot of new information given in order to understand this book, and I think it could do with a second reading cause I felt completely lost for more than the first 50 pages. After that, particularly during the descriptions of Mal and Alina tracking the Morazova herd, descriptions of Ravka flowed freely and beautiful.
For whatever reason, I'm happy to go into the next book hoping the writing is more alike to that in the second part of Shadow and Bone.
For me, it's Wednesday, but yes, hard to believe! Although, I do have today off for an interview so extra reading time I wouldn't usually have ;)

There are too many teams to hunt everyone down!
Oh I asked to be with Greta. I didn't know you were friends too. We tend to read historical fiction together.

Terrified by Kevin O'BrienKevin O'Brien has fast become one of my favorite authors in the last year and this book was no disappointment.
Lisa has fallen in love with the perfect man. A young charismatic doctor. 4 months after the wedding the dream has turned into a nightmare. Dr. Glenn Swann has a very dark side and Lisa realizes she needs to escape, to disappear.
A body is found and identified as Lisa and Glenn goes to prison for her death. Meanwhile Lisa has started a new life in hiding. 14 years later DNA proves that the body isn't Lisa and Glenn is out and on the hunt.
A great terrifying stalker story. I give it 5 stars
Congrats, Ashley!Sorry I was so late in checking in this week for what I'll be reading. I'm catching up on all my notifications right now.
I'll be reading Last Sacrifice which is a #6 in a series.
Here is a team challenge in one of my groups if anyone is interested, starts Jan 1st https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

. ♥♥♥♥This was a fast and easy read, and it kept me interested. Alexis starts working for a hotel owned by a billionaire, Bryce. Alexis and Bryce immediately notice chemistry between them, but Alexis is married. She has to choose between the two. This was good for a romance/erotica book. I would read the next in the series.
Haha, I can't help it. I love group challenages! This one is almost over....sadly...seems to have gone by way too fast!
It looks like the game is officially over so I just wanted to take a moment to say thanks to all of you for being great teammates. It's been a pleasure meeting you all.
It was great meeting all of you! I'm sad we are not on each other's teams for team towers, but at least I know I have a few Allies out there lol. Hope to see you in a few buddy reads:)
Aw fantastic. I loved that this challenge got so many books off my to read list. And it was great playing with you. Can't wait for the next challenge!
Yes, it has been great reading with you all, and I am sure we shall see each other around! And yes, maybe some buddy reads in Tower!

It's always hard to get my family all together at once, we always seem to be missing one or two of us, when we try(I have 1 sister & 4 brothers, & numerous nieces and nephews).
And how great to see some old friends as well.
The picture is absolutely beautiful. Enjoy your family and the great outdoors!
